Fixed Mag Solution!?

Okay guys... I saw this on ARF.com and began to think that this could help us with our Fixed Mag setups. Let me know what you think.

As long as we can lock it in place and ensure it won't come out it be really neat at the range. Then we won't have to break our AR's open all the time.

It would not help you at all; if you want to lock a mag in place it can only be a 10 round magazine otherwise it is an assault weapon!

It may be designed so that the sliding part pulls down the spring and follwer, holding it in place so that you can load the ammo.
I was thinking that if a mag system like that could be made so that a stripper clip could feed it or drop in we'd be able to reload faster.

That image is just for reference. For our needs it would need to be a 10rd mag with a loading door/gate so we don't need to crack the upper open.

OK, sorry to jump to quick conclusions, but someone else tonight wanted to do a fixed 30 rounder.

You are correct that a 10 round version of this would work, but basically there might not be enough of a market for just 10 rounders, unless the company that makes the 30 rounders would take it on.

For clearance it would have to be at least a 20 rounder body, that would only hold ten rounds; seems that the opening part also slides down the follower.

I don't mind scissoring open the AR, but I'd love a mag like this for the AK. <hint, hint> for all you tinkerers out there.

If one of us was to undertake a project like this for our cause, how would you go about getting it produced?

I used to have a fixed mag config AR and made a pulldown tab for the follower. I used it for a few months and then started working on my gripless "grip".

I could load 10 rds. easy through the ejection port, no FTF or FTE's whatsoever.

So here I load the ammo from the ejection port:


Pull down the tab underneath the mag and load your ammo (from the ejection port)


Here you see the tab is extended:


And if you want to extract the ammo (cease fire etc.) you rack the charging handle to eject the ammo (and of course for safety sake, point the rifle downrange please)

The only thing that I like about this pull down tab is that when I did get a jam, I just pull the tab down and then the bullet would just drop down inside the mag again....shooting continues. I tested this for about 1 month. As far as I know it didn't give me any problems.

Yeah, it looks crappy as hell and you have that tab sticking out of the bottom, but If I can shoot my AR without breaking it open just to load, I'm happy.

My guess is w/ the magwell you wouldn't be able to lower that plate far enough to stick 10 rounds into the front of the mag (since 10 rounds fit completely inside the magwell).

Myself and a few others here are/have been working on using stripper clips on fixed-mag builds (I need a way to improve my times in tactical rifle competition!). You still have to scissor the rifle open but w/ the extended takedown pin you can buy it's not a big deal. Just need to deal w/ the bolt catch being in the way and I think it'll work. I'll post w/ some pics if I can get it to work.
