If I have to venture a guess: a Polish Mauser variant?

it is a Polish made K-98 style bolt action. if it is in good condition it could be worth 400, not that many were made in comparison to German K-98s, kind of an uncommon but nice rifle. does it have the straight or bent bolt handle. Post some pics

looks different compared to wz29 photos? wz29 look like a copy of the german AZ short mauser rifle used by german sturm troopen in WW1. calibre should be 8mm

What you appear to have is the Polish Karabinek wz.29 that Noonanda mentioned but at some point it was sportierized. Somebody "improved" it into a hunting rifle. Depending on how good a job they did it might be a first class rifle.

Be careful with the caliber assumption. It would have started life as a 7.92x57mm Mauser, (also called 8mm Mauser).

However, the person who bubbaized it could have rebarreled it into just about any other medium caliber. As I am sure you already know, it is just not safe to fire the wrong caliber round out of a rifle. It could blow up in your face.

Get a gunsmith to check it out for you.

it looks nicely done but as far as collector value there isnt any now. But it could be a good shooter and a good hunting rifle

I think i will have it checked by a gun smith, i can't trust my friend any more he told me it was .308. I went out and bought those bullets they wouldn't work too big.
Forgive me for a dumb question what is first class rifle??

It looks very nice better then pictures show it. I still wish it was in original shape.

Defining a first class rifle is subjective at best. To me if the action is smooth, the trigger is crisp and the rifle is accurate you are in the ballpark.
