Whats the best ammo for 16in, 1/9 AR?

I was just reading in another post about the new colt civilian upper and it said the barrels 1/7 twist was best for 55gr to 77gr and it got me wonderin whats the best for a 1/9? Ive always used 55gr so im curious as to what you guys with the same are using.

There isn't a definite answer. I had a 1/9 that would stabilize 75gr bullets but another that wouldn't. You should be fine with any 55gr or 62gr bullet though. Try some of the heavier rounds and see if they keyhole or if they stabilize.

you have to try different brands/grains. one 55gr. could shoot better than another 55gr. find one that works well and stick with it.

I have shot a variety of rounds, 55gr, 50gr, 62gr, and 75gr, they all preformed great (when i shelled out the money for the quality stuff) i noticed the 50gr and the 62gr at least in my AR preform a lil better, its just that where I live i cant seem to find anything besides 55gr and im wondering if theres anything worth going out of town for

Reload if you want the best for you gun.

I shoot everything from 40gr to 69gr in my 16 inch 1/9 target AR. They all shoot well. Shockingly the worst groups come from 55gr bullets. Not sure why but they never group under 1.2 moa while I can make any other size bullet group under 0.5 moa. Sometimes that's just the way it goes with some barrels.

Just shoot the 55gr ammo, it's the best deal going right now by far and it will shoot just fine.

1/9 should stabilize up to 69gr just fine but that stuff is so expensive you're not going to be shooting it much unless you're reloading it anyway. I have a bunch of match ammo sitting around (mostly 69gr) but I'm mostly just plinking at the range anyway so that's all 55gr for me.

Unless it has a match barrel, I would stick to 55gr bullets. Easier to score, and
              they work well.
