I have seen many posts about sighting in AR's with iron sights. these are presumably based upon the standard triangular front sight. eg if sighted in at 50 yards you're X inches above at 100 yards and Y inches above or below at 200 yards.
Q: what distance above the bore is this standard front sight (can't measure I'm at work)? and more importantly, is there some formula or other which dictates the effect on the bullet path if a scope or BUIS is zeroed at 50 yards and is either higher or lower to the bore than the front sight?
