AR sighting

I have seen many posts about sighting in AR's with iron sights. these are presumably based upon the standard triangular front sight. eg if sighted in at 50 yards you're X inches above at 100 yards and Y inches above or below at 200 yards.
Q: what distance above the bore is this standard front sight (can't measure I'm at work)? and more importantly, is there some formula or other which dictates the effect on the bullet path if a scope or BUIS is zeroed at 50 yards and is either higher or lower to the bore than the front sight?

Sighting in at 50 = high 1-2in at 100yards.

Sighting in at 50 = spot on at 200yards.

Perfect for standard sight heights, but what I was really looking for was information on other hieghts. If the standard sight is 1.5 inch above the bore a sighting line of .5 inch lower gives a slightly different trajectory does it not? So if the sight is 1 inch above bore sighting at 50 I would guess would be low at 200 yards and a higher sight of say 2 inches would be higher. Anyone have the figureS?

In the Marines we sight in at 25meters . There for the 25 meter and 300 meter point if impact is the same. Keep in mind thought that differnt ammo will bring differnt results. I jsut borrowed a nifty book called black rifles and green eyes. It had a good chapter and some tables detailing all this topic.

You have to know the trajectory of the ammunition (BC and velocity) that you're shooting and then you can plug in your Height above bore into a program lke JBM and it calculates it.

This plus your different heights should give you what you're looking for. If you know the path of the bullet and you know the angle you're looking at you can figure out where you'll think the bullet will hit and where it will hit. If it's a taller sight post you'll be shooting low. If it's shorter you'll be shooting high.
