Go with an AR in .308 if you want to get out to distances 5.56 can not reach, it's that simple. You're looking at a bigger gun, a longer barrel, slightly more expensive ammo. My AR10T with 24" barrel is a beast compared to my AR15 carbine. Each gun will do some things better than the other can do. The carbine has an acog and red dot for fast target acquisition, while the AR10 has a big scope and bipod. Different tools for different jobs. It all depends on what job you want yours to do?

I want the knockdown of the 308 and the longer range (yeah I know you can build a AR-15 for long range, but it won't put down anything much over 2-300 yards) What are you going to do with it?
thats my big kicker for going for a ar15 vs ar10. i already have a good .308 bolt for long range work. just want something i can shot a lot cheaper at mid ranges and do a carbine class with, even thugh its going t end up being a 18"build.

AR-10 has a more powerful round= more range, better terminal ballistics...
that's the only thing going for it...
otherwise AR-15 wins in the price and compatibility categories...
