    +1

    I grew up with iron sights and kind of dropped out of the gun scene for about 10 years, when I jumped back in a year + ago, I didn't even know what a picatinny rail was. There was all this cool tactical stuff that I had never seen.

    So when I put together my new AR, I went all out and got all this cool stuff I thought I wanted, after taking it out a few times in the West Texas/New Mexico Rio Grande valley. I quickly realized the rifle I had built was not what I wanted, especially after acquiring an M1A. I wanted something much simpler that was more akin to the AR's I had grown up shooting on the ranches on my youth.

    I'm not dogging advancement as seen by me keeping an Eotech on it, I just don't have a need or want for all that other stuff hanging off.
    I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

    and

    If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

        Why do you have two points to mount a sling on the front of your AR?

          the one underneath the handguards is the stock riveted on, the sideways one is what I put on and use. I just dont want to drill out the stock one because I wont be able to put it back on easily and it doesnt get in the way. Rather have options if its ever needed. I also use the magpul sling, the one that is 1 point and converts to 2 point, the sideways mount lays the rifle against my chest better, and the rear sling mount is under the buffer tube, cant reall see it. That help center the rifle better for me with a 1 point sling .

            True, it cant get simpler for a semi-auto rifle, but...the goal was "light carbine"

            AK-47 = 9.5lbs empty

            M4 = 5.9lbs empty

            Source: Wikipedia

            BTW: chunky, sweet AK...i'll get one of those some day...or maybe an SKS.

                The built-in sling mount that comes on "stock" rifles is for a carry sling. No one really uses those anymore other than maybe in slowfire shooting in matches.

                A side sling mount is for a tactical sling, which you would actually use if you were using your rifle for self-defense.
