If they did that, then there would be no reason to buy their $5k special edition rifles.

It would just be like everything else Magpul makes. For example; everyone wanted Emags because no one had them but when everyone got them in stock, they were no longer in such high demand.

If not mass production, why not limited production every year?

like the one dude said liability and insurance , it would also take away from the nostalgia of their products . Having a limited number in circulation makes people more willing to put more down on the next batch of product

Also, profit margain.... the lower receiver market is low margain and filled with players...

They would rather be in their own niche market, magazines, nice-stocks, niche devices(BAD, ASAP, MS2) etc...where they can provide more differences and have a much bigger profit margain... (maybe 300% if not more for something like Pmags)

The ONLY reason why Magpul lowers are worth the money they are pulling in today is just becuz there are only a very limited number of them and there won't be anymore (not any planned), if they ever start to mass produce, then they probably will come back down to where billet lowers generally cost... $200ish...

Lastly, making them unobtainable is just fun... isn't it? lol..... supply and demand...

why sell 3000 lowers at $175 each when you could sell 175 lowers at $3000 each?

It truly is ALL about liability and their insurance carrier. Magpul is a "firearms accessory" manufacturer, and as such their liability insurance is much lower then that of "firearms" manufacturer. When they made the lowers, they became a firearms manufacturer. I'm sure their insurance carrier made them aware that the cost of their liability insurance would go WAY up if they sold the lowers.
It seems they did get special permission from their carrier to sell a small amount of lowers to Noveske, and they made the limited runs of rifles. I don't believe that Magpul wants to be a firearms manufacturer, which is one of the reasons they licensed the Masada/ACR first to Bushmaster and now to Remington. You may see limited edition rifles on Magpul lowers again, but I don't think you will ever see regular production of lowers for sale.
If you really want a first rate billet lower, check out the new Mega Machine offering.

One guy walks over to the black rifle area and starts gazing. An employee asked him if he knew what he wanted. The guy answered "Not sure......definitely something black.............and short...............and tactical."
