    Plastic on new Remington 700s?

I see Remington has plastic for their triggerguard and bottom blind magazine. WTF.

My 2008 M700 still uses metal. May be cheapo pot metal but it's better than plastic. F U Remington.

Sounds awesome i was going to begin hunting for a bolt gun. Just my luck.

Anybody have experience with the "revised" remingtons spoken about above?

... On second thought maybe this is a sign to just get the T3.

Some plastics are tough. I mean how much abuse can a trigger guard and the bottom of a mag need to be protected against?

I recall watching an episode of Guns and Ammo TV I think it was recently were they went to Ruger I think and actually tested the newer composite/polymer trigger guards with the metal ones and the plastic actually takes the abuse better. The metal ones tended to break or bend and the plastic simply absorbed the shock load.

Most likley it is not plastic but polymer

Could be a sign, but an alloy 700 trigger guard is cheap through Brownells. I have an older 40X that was scarred a bit & replaced it, drops right in.

Yup... This is 2009, not 1959. Plastic doesn't have to be thin and brittle anymore. Modern plastics are VERY durable.

You mean the new 700s come with a Magpul MOE trigger guard from the factory?

              Just teasing.

Regardless of whether polymer is acceptable for such a low stress part, I view it as cheapening the product.

Polymer 1911 MSH, Polymer Beretta 92FS guiderod, Polymer SIG MSH boot, Polymer Colt triggers. Now Polymer triggerguard assembly.

                It's just cheap.

I really want to believe in the BIG "R"- but i'd have to agree on this one. what rifles are getting outfitting with the plastic- oops, POLYMER triggerguards?

If they can cut my cost by making a part I'm going to replace anyway with plastic, so be it. 99% of shooters never use their equipment in such a way as to require the beefed up part. Those that do usually replace and tailor the parts to their needs.

Polymers can be more durable than any metal alloy they'd use to make a firearm with with the exception of high pressure and temperature areas, or other locations that can't have any flex at all. Plastic doesn't mean it's going to break. I seriously wonder how many of you go ape!@#$ over the amount of plastic on a modern car claiming it's going to fall apart or burst into flames as some deathtrap from hell.

If a plastic/polymer rifle buttstock can go to battle, you can live with a damn polymer trigger guard or guide rod.

That's what I like about my '68 Camaro, not much plastic.

I have the stainless Ruger and the polymer/plastic seems pretty tough. Didn't bend when I tried to bend it! Got a little scuffed though.
