    Range procedure for bullet button

I'm in the process of buying parts for my first AR build. I'll be using an OLL, 10rd. mag, and bullet button. When I take it to the range, what's the proper procedure to clear the rifle between firing periods? Usually, you have to have the bolt locked back, no round in the chamber, and the magazine removed, so the safety officer can clear it. Since its now has a fixed magazine ala the bullet button, is it still o.k. to remove the magazine or does this make the rifle illegal?

With the bullet button installed, you can legally detach your magazine from the lower with the use of a tool like a bullet tip or whatnot.

if in doubt you could just lock bolt back and leave mag in. I personally just quite going to ranges with people in charge. alot less FUD that way. I shoot in BLM or open area's.

I sometimes stick a spent casing in between the bolt carrier and the chamber so the range master can see the chamber is cleared. It will look like a FTE!!!

I've heard people talking about someone getting hooked up for removing their mag to reload with a BB installed. Not sure how valid it is, but they were adamant about it.

If it is sittin' around without a mag... does it have the capacity to accept a 30 round mag...?

You've heard someone talking about someone else getting "hooked up" for doing something 100% legal?

Its ok to remove. For me I always leave a mag in except when reloading. It just feels safer for me.

A few weeks ago I had a cop in plain clothes came up to me and play dumb. He came out of no where without a gun or friends. He started asking me noob questions about my setup to see if I knew my stuff. After a few questions in, my brother and I looked at each other and we both knew this was no noob but a cop. Questions like... "Hows that bullet button work?" and "you have any 30rd mags for that bad boy?" "Is that stock collapsible?" I asked if he wanted to shoot it and he laughed and said "no thanks, I'm good". He then walked away and was gone from the range. Cop or not it was very fishy.

All it takes is one cop who doesn't know to ruin your day. I've seen it happen with a lot of other things, and when someone says this happened with a BB I'm inclined to believe it.

After all the past discussion here on CG, some of you still don't appear to understand that with the bullet button correctly installed, the weapon does not have the capacity to accept a detachable magazine. It is completely legal to remove the mag with a tool, leave the mag out and transport the weapon without the mag. You should be able to explain this to any LE entity that you encounter. Got it?

What's to believe? There are no details whatsoever given. Classic FUD.

I never said it was ILLEGAL. I said that someone was arrested for it, which is entirely believable especially with the lack of training LEO's get here in CA on 2A issues.

I don't see FUD, just a story that could very well be true. It's just something to keep in mind if some LEO rolls up on you for something legal.

During a traffic stop someone was arrested for not having a magazine in his BB equipped AR. He reached out to CGF and was never charged as soon as we intervened. That was also almost a year ago as LEA's were just getting the word broadly.

That's one time ever. If it's happened to someone else they haven't been smart enough to get a message to CGF...
