Question... who has a muzle break on their mosin nagant? Working OK?

Just like the title of the thread says.
Who's got them? What thread pitch did you go with? What muzle device? How's it workin for ya?

I'm tired of the 2 foot ball of flame comming out of my barrel. I don't want to BBQ my deer this year BEFORE I even get a chance to skin it

All help welcomed in advance. I know, I know... not enough help out there available for me

I hear that most tend to break off and shoot down the range due to them not being properly secured/aligned.

i had the one that slides over the site and then has a bridge with 2 allen screws. needless to say my girl was shooting my m44 and part of it ended up in her shirt and the break itself was about 5 feet in front of her.

they work really well. just blow off cause of the amount of recoil!

has anybody threaded their barrel and installed an AR-10 type flash supressor for hunting use?
I just dropped mine off last night for a target crown and AR-10 thread pattern threading.

If you have a counter bored Mosin. Just take a drill press and drill some strategic holes around the counter bored area. Wala.. free muzzle break.

I dropped off mine yesterday to have the muzle trimmed back to 18in with a decent crown and threaded to fit the AR-10 VLTOR flash supressor. I already added a synthetic stock, better trigger, forward scout mount, scout scope a modified bolt with the turned down handle (bought it off gunbroker about 3 years ago and its pretty nice).

I am using this rifle as a testing ground to develop the right system for sporterizing a nice M44 that I have sitting around. For all those purists out there, I paid wholesale for it 3 years ago. Lets get real here folks...

I think these things make EXCELLENT hunting rifles. Its the muzle flash while hunting in the dry woods / grass around here that scares the hershey out of me...

I appreciate any ideas or sugestions about mods to make it more hunting friendly.

Your scared of the muzzle flash causing fires? You have a higher chance of your magnetic bullet striking rock and starting a fire. Muzzle blast will just blow everything away.

Muzzle break on a Mosin? If you get a sore shoulder just cure it with vodka

Contact Tho Sun and I believe Ajax

They both have muzzle breaks on their mosins. Tho Sun I know has an AK style muzzle break. We talked about it in a couple of threads around here somewhere.

I have 1 that slides over the muzzle and clamps around the front sight, very solid. Works great, just make sure know one is standing on ether side of you.

It's not that it can't be done, but the majority of them installed, the user just follows manufacturer's instructions to just pin it on. That kind of install is just not going to stay. It will take machining and gunsmithing to tame the Mosin. You cannot just pin it on there, it ain't going to work. Duct tape would work better than that.

I have one of the clamp on models on my M44. I've Loctited the screws and haven't had any problems. Yes, it is loud if you aren't the one doing the shooting, but who cares?

Yep. My barrel is trimmed back to 16 inches. Firing in the prone, I have singed a few bushes in the past using surplus ammo. Even though I will be using comercial soft points for hunting that have a noticeably lower muzle flash, I hunt C and B zones. They are high fire risk areas. Lets make one thing clear, I am installing a flash supressor. Not a muzle break.

I will post an update when I get my rifle dialed in and include a few pics just for other's refrence. It aint pretty, but it sure is effective
