    ACOG zeroing issues...

I recently bought a Trijicon ACOG TA31F with the chevron reticle. I was finally able to get to the range today to see how it performed. At 25 yards I was able to get tight groups from a bench rest using PMC 55 grain bullets. They were all about 6 inches low and a couple inches to the right! I was reluctant to make any major adjustments though...

(Trijicon owners manual) " The ACOG is shipped in a centered position for M16/AR15 carrying handles. Normally this means that only small adjustments are necessary. DO NOT adjust the riflescope to the extremes. It is possible that over-adjustment will damage the precise alignment of the prism assembly inside the riflescope. As the limits of the adjustment are reached, the adjustment mechanism will become more and more difficult to adjust. If the adjusment mechanism is adjusted past this point, it will break."

I turned the adjustment knob about twelve clicks in the "up" direction (adjustment increments are 1/2 inch per click at 100 meters) with little or no results? Basically, my question is for those of you who have an ACOG, did your scope require alot of adjustment? I don't want to over do it and destroy my scope that I just paid so much money for. The point of aim is the top of the chevron reticle, right? Any help is much appreciated!

Are you trying to zero the tip of the chevron at 25? If so...that is not how its done.

If you are shooting at 25yrds....you should be using the 300-400yrd mark.

No kidding? Now I'm anxious to get back there and try it again! I read through the whole owners manual and didn't catch that? I'll have to check it out again...

The tip of the chevron is meant for 100yrd zero.

So you kinda have to use the battle zero concept with it. When I am shooting at 25, I use the 400yrd mark and I'm about 1/2in high.

Yeah, you were right. "The reticle may also be zeroed at 25 meters if the 300 meter mark is used or the bottom of the illuminated reticle. A 25 meter zero is less precise than a 100 meter zero."

I just looked through the scope and the 300 meter mark is only a fraction of an inch lower than the top of the reticle though? My point of impact was about where the 600-700 meter mark is? Did your ACOG require a lot of adjustment when you zeroed it in? I don't want to break it!

No, not much adjustment was needed. Mine was a flat top model though....you mentioned yours was carry handle?

Another thing....when you adjust, "tap" the turret.<----that may just be superstition, but do it anyway.

What do you mean by "tapping" the turret? Before adjusting it, just give it a good luck tap?
No, mine is a flat top too. Those were the insructions of the owners manual regarding the carry handle. Thanks for your help. Anybody else have any experience with zeroing their ACOG???

Each click is 1cm at 100meters for my TA33R-B.

Mine seemed like it required quite a bit of initial adjustment, but then again, I do not zero ACOG's on a regular basis. I kept on adjusting, waiting to feel the pressure of the dial increase indicating I was up against the internal adjustment limits. I never felt it, these things have an amazing amount of adjustment.

I have to agree the manual is sparse considering the high cost and great features of the scope. And not model-specific. One of these days I should sit down and do the metric-to-yards conversion so I know what I'm doing.....

I have a TA31RCO-M4 on my Sig 556. I used a 50 yard Zero/200. Your point of aim, point of impact will be the top of the little post in the inverted part of the cheveron ( THE BOTTOM OF IT) this is a 50/200 yard zero. yOU HAVE TO SHOOT IT AT A 50 YARD Range to get it. I had to adjust my ACOG, 47 Clicks of RT Windage and 6 clicks on Down Elevation to Zero. But you have a Flat- top AR, right? Your adjustments may be a little different. Hope this helps.

Wow, 47 clicks huh? The owners manual isn't really clear about how many clicks is excessive or not? I only turned it twelve clicks "up" but never really felt any resistance. I was hoping to get an idea from other ACOG users how much adjustment was needed to zero their rifles? I guess if you turned yours 47 clicks without damaging it then I should probably give it another try....

The damage stage will be obvious. You'll feel resistance.

The manual lists it as 1.4". I have it mounted on a LaRue DOS MINI right on the back of the rail close to the charging handle. Seems to work pretty darn good. On the bench I can get right into it, and out plinking 1.4"-2" seems about right. BAC works fine when I play Tactical Mall Ninja In The Hills.

Forgive my resurrection of this necro-post, but I just bought a TA33G-H, and was trying to zero at 100 yards... the shots were a few inches left, but after perhaps 10 clicks right it didn't seem to be moving my shots at all... is it fairly common for the scope to need a lot of adjustment straight from the factory, despite it saying that it's "mechanically zeroed" out of the box? Am I doing something wrong? This is on a flat-top AR, BTW.
This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.
