Change the followers to the flat ones made for the .50 Beowulf/.458 SOCOM and you will be set to go. The magazines will no longer be able to feed .223/5.56 and no one will hassle you.

However, the feed lips can be an issue so it may be best to just buy .50 Beowulf mags...

So what you’re saying is that I can buy new cool see-through (or whatever) 30rd mags and bring them into cali without being hassled by the man as long as I change out the followers to flat one??

I just wanted to make sure??

IMO you would still have to bring them into Cali as rebuild kits, because if someone just ships them to you in factory condition you will be importing a hicap magazine which is illegal. But if they come in parts and then you swap followers- you have a magazine that will only hold 10 rounds...GTG!

Let's look at the reality of the situation:

The 5.56 feeds and holds 10rds of 50Beo. It is the way you would normally (until recently - with actual production .50 mags) get a mag for .50 beo.

You can legitimately buy/use what would otherwise be 30rd 5.56 mags, regardless of whether it's being used for 5.56 or .50Beo.

The idea of getting hassled at the range is weird. Where are these mythical ranges people are getting hassled? Sure, I've heard one and two-off stories, but you're as likely or more so to be hassled for just about anything else you can imagine (Is that an AW? Did you have the ammo in the same bag? why are you wearing blue?)

Stop worrying and start using. If there ever becomes an issue, the 1st rule of dealing with the cops is say NOTHING. There are so many holes, nay freeways, through the large cap laws in this situation that 10 seconds with a good guy lawyer is about all it will take to walk free.

PS - of all the people who have had issues with rifle configurations and had to give them up, I have yet to hear of someone having to surrender their large-cap mags.
