    new ar15

Ok guys i get my ar on friday, means the range on saturday . i will be tearing the rifle down after the shoot but, i need to know proper cleaning tools, i have been told dewey rods do very well. My question is if i get the nylon coated dewey rod do i need a bore guid as well? what types of solvent/lube do you suggest and what are the proper break in procedures? the rifle is a copmlete cmmg rifle.

Just buy a complete cleaning kit for a .223 remmington rifle. It will have everything you need.

      Store kits are crap.

You're on the right path, OP. Yes, buy a bore guide. A brass brush and jag are all you need with patches and solvent. I'm not real picky on solvent. You'll want a good lube, as well. There are quite a few good ones. If you're buying specific, get Slip 2000.

Proper break-in is to quickly clean the barrel out, liberally lube the BCG and shoot it until you're out of ammo.

In case your new AR has one, don't use solvent on a stainless steel barrel.
