    SKS Help

I recentley acquired a Norinco SKS, I just brought it home today and I flipped some lever that was right ahead of the rear flip up sight. Now the problem is I dont know what it was that I flipped and I flipped it too far and I cant get it back in. So, can somebody tell me what it was that I flipped and how I get it back in? Here is a picture of it. (If I did it right)

That lever on the side should be rotated down; there is a dimple in the rear sight block where it lines up. It is there to hold the gas tube in place. It's tight so you'll have to wiggle the gas tube/upper hanguard a bit until you can rotate that lever down.

You pulled it up far enough to allow the gas rod spring to protrude.

Go to the sites mentioned above and learn how to strip and clean it.

It's no big deal, so have fun.

Whoo just got done doing a pretty simple field strip. Did it a couple times to get used to it. But dang that trigger assembly is a pain to get back in, and almost impossible with a red dot scope mounted on a rail. I also got the switch or whatever its called back in by using a tiny screwdriver to push the spring in far enough to rotate the switch.

good for you..now you understand how that "switch" releases both the handguard/gas tube assembly and the gas rod spring.

And that's the drawback of a receiver cover sight mount. It interferes with field stripping the bolt and trigger assembly.

The trigger assembly shouldn't be that hard. A firm tap with a rubber mallet should (isn't that a great term?) pop it right back in.

you do not need the bolt cover and bolt carrier/assembly to put it back it. Makes it much easier.

                      Yes, that's correct.

I didn't type my thoughts clearly enough.

I should have typed, "And that's the drawback of a receiver cover sight mount. It interferes with field stripping."
