Im slowly building up a lower for a 6.8. I've always had good luck with riflegear and thats usually who I order my parts from. My question is do I need to do anything different such as a heavier buffer or spring?

Barrel, bolt and magazine are the only differences. Heck, I've been told by a customer that a 5.56 mag can be modified to work with 6.8Ty | 815.246.AR15 (2715) | info@midwestpx.com

For about 3-4 rounds yes but for a full mag No.
The 6.8SPC has a larger diameter cartridge so will not work reliably in a 5.56 magazine (i.e. interior width of the magazines is different).
I once had a dream of converting Pmags for use with my 6.8 SPC rifle. Sorry, not gonna happen. Feed lips, and interior width are different.Comment

Nothing different for the lower except the mags. I built mine using a DoubleStar stripped lower, G&R LPK, Geissele DMR Trigger group, Vltor EMOD, and an AR15 Performance MK68 Recon upper. I'm using CProducts 10rd 6.8 SPC mags."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

I talk a lot of crap about the 6.8 being too expensive and even reloading being too expensive but today I shot 3, 5 shoot, 1" groups at 100 yds today. It is a great round.Comment

My feeling is that I can do 90% of my AR15 practice with a 5.56 that's nearly identical (BCM middy) to my 6.8 SPC. That leaves the high buck rounds for self defense and hunting."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--
