THe thumbhole can be plugged- the standard SL8 is a 1 feature weapon. I've done one as an experiment, and sold it on here awhile back.

If you have an AR mag well adaptor, it's easy to fix the mag- just replace the release spring with a solid piece of metal. It *is* possible to port load the G36 clones if you have small hands- that's what we did with a buddy's neutered rifle. We couldn't get more than 8 rounds in the 10 round mag though.
I suppose the not-so-cheap could also get a raddlock and run the SL8 10 rounders
