30 Round Mags on Ar Legalities

From the research that I've done I am at the understanding that you can own and use 30 Rd Mags if you have a featureless rifle. Is this true? And if so do gun shops sell them or would I have to go out of state to get some?

If you do not have them now, you cannot legally get them - illegal to import or manufacture, illegal to buy. That's the subject of the Duncan lawsuit, https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1881038

If you already have 'large capacity magazines' in CA, having bought them in the 'Freedom Week' event or had them from before the law forbade them, yes, you can use them in 'featureless' semi-automatic rifles (as well as bolt action or pump action or whatever not semi-auto). With a 'featureless' rifle, one would not create an 'assault weapon' by using a large-capacity magazine.

Also, though it's a tiny bit controversial, you should be able to use a large-capacity magazine with a RAW - Registered Assault Weapon - because the crime is 'manufacturing an assault weapon' and as an admitted and registered 'assault weapon', it would be hard to make it 'more assaulty'. The possible controversy is whether an insane CA Department of Justice would reason that way.

So far as I am aware, that combination has not yet been challenged by CADOJ.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

What you need is a Time Machine, amigo. Your question should have been, ? Can I own and use 30 round magazines that I have owned since Jan. 1, 2000 and/or Freedom Week??

Yeah, your logic here got flipped around. The correct way to look at it is, if you already happen to own legally acquired 30-rnd mags (or anything > 10 rnds), you can only use them in non-fixed-mag rifles (this includes "featureless" ARs) or in registered AWs.

And it's a big no-no to bringing them into the state. That'd be "importing" them.
