    Sighting System advice wanted here

    Gentlemen of the rifle,

I come here because I am a handgun guy. Not a shotgunner or a rifleman and I need some opinion.

I just got a Remington 7615 for myself at a ridiculous price and it has no sights. It's the first rifle I have ever had with no iron sights. It does, however, have a factory picatinny rail that needs something.

Now, this is for short range work. A couple hundred meters at most. I do not expect to take it to Camp Perry. Also, I hate batteries but am open to a system that can use rechargeables. For some reason, I keep picturing a compact 4x Leupold. 2.5x maybe? A handgun scope? One more thing. Weight. If you watch the ozs. the lbs. take care of themselves.

Please keep this topic on sighting systems. The 7615 is a love it or hate it kind of firearm and this forum tends to be split. Thank you.

what kinda short range work? Hunting? Target? I see that rifle with a red dot like an EoTech or some type of low mag. scope if you wanna get out a little further.

The gun is for fun. I will most likely shoot steel and paper with it. 50m-150m is the likely range.

Put a red dot on it if you want to have fun.. they offer fast target acquisition and fast followup shots. Buy a Aimpoint so you dont have to worry about battery life for a VERY long time. Or theres always the Trijicons

My choices would be a Nikon Monarch 2-8x32, or a Bushnell 4200 3-9x40, or a Nikon Team Primos 3-9x40, or Weaver K4 4x38 in that order.

How about a millet zoom dot or Millet DMS-1. SWFA even put out a super sniper version of the Burris P.E.P.R. here: http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-AR-Tacitcal-Mounts-C2677.aspx

I am leaning towards a Millet Compact Red Dot. It comes with weaver mounts. The 7615 has a Picatinny rail on top. I need new rings, right?
