The AR design is many many decades old. It's still probably the best combat rifle out there. But it does have some limitations.
I don't know if the below are "advantages", but they are behind the design concept for the Jakl.
Adjustable long stroke gas system so the bolt and carrier don't get dirty and you can easily adjust the gas for different types of ammo and for suppressor use. Folding stock with a integral adjustable cheek riser. Monolithic top rail not attached to the barrel so any accessories mounted stay zeroed better. Ease of switching the cocking handle to either side without tools or additional parts.
One "disadvantage" to the Jakl and similar rifles is weight. It weighs more than a similarly equipped AR by about 1.5 pounds... There is no free lunch.
For me I bought one because I like both the AR as well as the AK rifles. The Jakl combines traits from both, and adds a few twists of it's own. The bolt carrier and gas piston are very similar to any AK type. The bolt is very similar to a AR.
The Jakl uses a AR lower receiver. The only part on the lower which doesn't swap is the bolt release (A $19.00 part) . Other than that part all the other lower parts, including most custom parts are a direct swap.
PSA also sells kits with all the parts necessary to build your own Jakl on your AR receiver in either 5.56 or .300 Blackout.
It's a neat little rifle with a lot of potential. I'm sure through more wide spread use the design will get modified and improved. In fact since introduction a few years ago the rifle has already had some modifications for better parts longevity as well as better function.Last edited by SVT-40; 02-18-2024, 9:19 AM.Poke'm with a stick!

It would appear this an affordable and much more available facsimile of the excellent Sig 552. Pretty dang cool!Comment

It also has a monolithic upper so you can have a PEQ or laser mounted on it and it won't lose zero.Comment

Did you SBR that puppy? How did you get the tax stamp approved so fast?
How much does it actually weigh?"Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

Thanks for the pics and info!!
These posts always remind me: Man, I need to get to a free state, haha!!You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

I weighed the Jakl last night. Tried to post, but apparently my post timed out..
Anyway the Jakl with a empty mag and the att6ached PA 3x scope weighed in at 8 Pounds 11 Ounces.
I also weighed a AR carbine that I have with a ACOG 3x scope mounted. I weighed it with a empty mag and it weighed 7 Pounds 3 Ounces. This rifle has a "Govt." weight barrel, which is thinner than the Jakl.
So similarly equipped for comparison. The Jakl weighed in at 1 Pound 4 Ounces heavier.
