    FAL Question

Quick FAL question, I have an STG 58 that's all wooded out - I grabbed one of the nice DSA European wood stocks and forends they had a few years ago for about 5 minutes. Now I want to switch out the cocking knob, don't know how but I have an idea. Do I drift out the roll pin, knock out the little alloy tab and slide out the knob & lever, replace and refit?

        You're correct.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

It should be a 2mm solid pin, just a bit longer than 5/16". A 5/64" roll pin (auto parts store) will also work.

You can make a perfect 2mm solid pin...try a coat hanger or nail

I'm about to give up. I have the cocking unit removed, spring out and the only thing left is the plastic knob and the aluminium slide. I can't get the damn plastic knob of the post. I've tried unscrewing, I've tried tapping it out from the other side - nothing. Is there something about the DSA that's different from others? It almost seems like this thing is press fit on, one way only.

The knob is riveted onto the slide.

So basically I have to get a new slide & rivet? How the heck do people switch these things out?
