Which would you rather have HK MR762 or Sig MCX 308?

I've been thinking about getting a 16" barrelled regularly available but also relatively newly available 308 semi-auto rifle. These two caught my eye. Largely because they are easy to get in CA compliant variants right now.

Which would you choose and why? Feel free to compare and contrast.

I went with the Sig MCX Spear. I never really considered the HK. I try lately to gravitate away from guns that have proprietary magazines, especially when they are expensive and I don?t have any. I have a bunch of freedom week sr 308 lancers, Magpul and some Duramags that all work with MCX.

Overall I can?t really say it?s better or worse than the HK. They?re both solid guns, and I don?t think youll be disappointed in either. The Sig does have a side charging handle which I thought was a nice extra. Even though when I shot it, I never used it 😑. I kind of just forgot about it, but it?s there!

Id say a feature of the Sig is a barrel swap if you?re interested in that type of thing; I think eventually they may offer a .277 fury kit (or maybe some
other caliber) new barrel and bolt to switch out. But I don?t see myself ever buying a kit, if Sig ever offers one for sale. Most of their kits are announced or talked about, but never released for sale.

If you do go with the MCX, dont waste your time with the juggernaut grip I have on mine. The color matches perfectly, and I like them ok, but because of that extra material on the back of the Spear that a normal ar15 doesn?t have, there is a small gap to hold the grip as it should be held. It hurts when shooting if you dont hold it at the right angle. I?m going to try something else, maybe a miad grip with the exile fin grip. I still have a couple laying around.

I've never shot either of those but eventually want together a B&T APC 308... I have one in 5.56 and love it.

might not be AR enough for consideration, but takes standard mags, has 'similar' controls... but side-charger. Super smooth shooting and accurate.

I don't know if it could be made CA compliant though (i'm not sure of the rules these days)

If I was in the market for another 308, I'd likely go with it. Pricey though

I'm a huge fan of the Larue pretatobr, great quality, parts are all machined in house in Texas. East barrel swap, less sticker shock, parts are almost always available, and superb customer service

My vote goes for the SFAR. I know it's not what you asked and considered budget by SIG and HK ballers, but I'd take it.

had one. 2 things. both relatively minor. the firing pin retaining pin absolutely refused to go back in after cleaning. total PITA. destroyed 2 during one cleaning session. and you have to take everything apart and CLEAN the gun. it gets absolutely filthy. you do have to play with the gas settings and find out what makes it happy. third thing not necessarily minor. it DEFINITELY needs to be fed small base ammo. if you reload you cannot use "regular" .308 dies you have to use small base or it's a jam o matic--granted, lots of semi autos at minimum "prefer" that

personally went with a Spear instead of the HK cause...mags. dont like having more different mags.

I'd go Spear because it has military adoption to some degree, and parts are going to be more available than for an HK.

The yin and yang of a semi auto in .308 is weight. The Ruger is listed as 6.8lbs. I have a Sig 716 patrol that comes in at 9.3. That's very apparent when I shoot it side by side with heavier guns in .308. The light weight is a virtue when you're carrying it but a detriment when firing it. It really boils down to what you want to do with it. The SIG and the H&K are certainly in a different price range. The Sig is lighter than the H&K but id probably go H&K.
