Spent the day at Livermore Pleasanton Rod and Gun Club

    CORRECTION:

They are in fact open on Sundays. Google was wrong. Spoke to them today while there and they confirmed they are open on Sundays.

    ORIGINAL POST:

For the second Saturday in a row I got some lead therapy at Livermore Pleasanton Rod and Gun Club in NorCal. The range has very nice employees and is clean and well maintained. For those who are new, there are lots of range masters to keep them safe and give pointers and instruction.

Got some of my ARs zeroed.

URGI Rifle from last weekend. Target is a 25 yard target but really was at 50 yards. Made due. Same goes for the other rifles. This is the only one I bothered to take a pic of. Not bad for a red dot and no vice.

Some of the rifles I zeroed.

I used to shoot there 40 years ago. Can you still park right behind your bay? Do they still have the metal plates on the hill? 220 yards I think it was. Aside from the wind, it was a nice range.
Would like to buy 357 Maximum ammo.

I did not see metal plates on the hill. No parking directly behind your bay, but you are very close. There is a fence and reserved parking for staff behind the bays. They tightly control when you can and cannot enter for safety.

They do have a spotting scope at every bay on the rifle range side. Which comes in very handy. They also have a wood stabilizing block at every bay that has various heights notched into it. Fee is $25 per day and comes with a free target.

Plan to head there tomorrow. I wish they were open on Sunday's. Would be a lot more productive for me.

This was the first outdoor range I went to. Prior to that, it was Reeds and Target Masters(?) in Santa Clara. It was a heck of a drive to get some shooting in. I learned a lot there and is still my favorite range. Since then, I moved up to Martinez and USI is close by. This is also a nice range, but it doesn't rate as highly as Livermore.

No. 1 full second between shots. Like most ranges open to the public. If they let the guy who knows what he is doing it, the folks who do not quickly follow...and suddenly it becomes very unsafe. One of the big selling points about this range is the effort they put into keeping everyone safe. Including beginners. A lot of ranges I have gone to felt like the wild west, and there were legit concerns some NOOB was going to accidentally shot you. Some ranges have IPSC competitions, and hours specifically for you to train for them. Not sure if this is one of those ranges. There is an area off to the side of the rifle and pistol range that is under construction. Might be what that is for. The orange in Concord did that. But it is a bit of a drive for me. Plus last time I checked they were closed for renovations...for like years. Never bothered to see if they reopened. I used to take a course every six months or so just to get some holster and practical rifle work in. Been a while. Solar Tactical offers those. Not sure about the quality of training. If you have the option of training with Jason Paleta up in Sacramento he's a great instructor. https://www.pillartraining.net/schedule. If you can go to one of the big name schools they are great too. I used to go to Front Sight a lot. You will get LOTS of rapid fire at a course.

Well 1 second between shots is better than the 3 seconds per shot at my local range. Might have to give this range a try!!

Livermore is awesome, we go to Golden west Grand every year. Haven’t shot rifle and pistol there but love the people and the shotgun facilities. If I were local it’s be my club.

Might want to check if Sunday closures are just over the Holidays.

Great range. It definitely has the old-school feel but that's not always a bad thing.

Had fun today. Got my Dad's S&W10 and a Police Trade-In Remington 700 Police LTR (both in 308) sighted in today. Got a great deal on that Remington Police, and as such was a little worried the barrel may have been shot out. Nice to get confirmation that is not the case. Getting really nice groupings out of it. Was only at 50 yards. The range goes out to 100 yards but I wanted to get the 50/200 yard base zero so I could set the dials on my turrets.

Thank you to Calguns member AR15Barrels for putting the Samson Rail on Dad's S&W M&P10. Looks great.
