    Sig 716i Tread

I'm not much of a rifle person. I realized the shortsightedness of my thinking and decided I needed both a light and medium duty rifle. I chose a Sig 716i (from Wilde) for my middle of the road, medium duty rifle. This rifle isn't discussed very often here. I've already picked up the proprietary Sig ambi charging handle along with a LaRue trigger.

This is a general purpose rifle with no specific task planned. I simply wanted a light and medium duty rifle. I built a lower and put a colt upper on for my light duty AR. This is phase two.

Is there anything in particular that I should watch for/be concerned with? Still waiting on a scope mount and ammo before I can take it out. Has anyone put any rounds through a 716i? Perhaps share some insight about it?

It should be like any other AR308. I've been eyeing one myself.

Since you bought the rifle complete, this may not apply but others might find it helpful...

AR10s are less lego-like than AR15s. There is no mil spec that everyone follows, so uppers and lowers from different manufactures may not be interchangeable for example. Just something that you have to be conscious of.

I've got a 716 Patrol which is a bit older. Its piston driven instead of DI. The piston has a selector, low high and off. Its a great rifle but shoot it side by side with an M1A and the weight difference becomes apparent with the recoil. Never has an issue with it. Great fun to shoot.

@Dan ~ I've not had any experience with any other AR308. It was challenging to decide.

@Dave ~ I bought a complete rifle because of the issue you mention. I think it's good that you've restated it in case someone else runs across this thread in the future. Thanks

@Mark ~ I've heard the early piston driven versions are a nice find. I was not lucky enough to find one. I hope mine is "issue-less" as well.

You could go with a SCAR 16 or Tavor X95 for light duty (both 5.56)
