    10/20 mag conversion

Besides the "sticky" 10rd mag tutorials has anyone found a good way to convert a strait 20rd stainless steel mag into a 10/20? Also, to be compliant with CA law does one have to use either epoxy of rivets when converting a hi-cap mag into a 10rd mag?

    -Thanks guys

Check out the 10/20 mags from Riflegear. It's really trick how they made theirs. They can also do the mods for you and install nice followers while they're at it.

Compliance requires the modification to be "permanent" which is somewhat nebulous. Opinions vary as to what "permanent" means however riveting and/or epoxying isn't a bad idea.

CA law just says your conversion from a 20 round mag to a 10 round mag has to be "permanent." I'm unaware of anytime CA courts have actually defined what they mean by that.

If whatever method you are using can be undone without any tools, then that is definitely not permanent, but I don't know if that is the best test.

Hopefully some others can chime in?

With my 10/30 I use on my Saiga, I used some short nails through the back of and flush with the magazine body to block the follower from accepting more than 10 rounds, then covered the nail heads with about 10 layers of krazy glue applied over several days until there were some rather large and strong glue blobs there (followed by firing over a hundred rounds and double checking the glue). And finally I glued the bottom plate to the mag body so no one could reach inside and try to push the nails out. That fit my definition of "permanent" but your definition may vary.

... or a small hole drilled to the side of the floor plate with a roll pin pressed in.

The reason for epoxy over rivets is there's precedence that this is a CA-approved method.

Rivets are damned easy, but you can see them. If that doesn't bother you, do it.
