Shooting prone off a bag question...

Using a front rest (no rear rest):
As you pull the rifle snugly to your body and bring your offhand arm around underneath the rifle, how/where do you place your offhand? I often find myself making a fist underneath the rifle's buttstock to raise or lower the POA, but this cant be correct.

There is no right or wrong way - it depends what is most comfortable for you and stable. Personally I grab the rear sling swivel with my 3rd, 4th, and 5th finger and use my index finger and thumb to hold the stock.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

I've done what you have before. Like wolf said, there is no real right or wrong way to stable your rifle as all of us are different in little ways. Keep shooting and it will come to you in time. A small rear bag will help as well and they are pretty cheap. Or just fill an old sock up with some sand.

It is always best to be resting the rifle on something other then your hand if available.

I have also found using a sling in prone to be the best. Read this:

I do the fist. Or use a beanbag. Or I hold it however with whatever in order for me to get steady accurate shots. Many ways to skin a cat. It's true though, whatever you can do to minimize contact with your body, the steadier and more consistent your shot will be. Beanbag, sock of sand, former fake booby, any of those would work to rest the rear of the rifle on.

I slip my left arm under my right arm to act as additional support.
