    JT Featureless Grip

I read the old thread that is almost a year old but wanted to check if the JT grip is good to go?

I saw on the current Turner's ad a rifle with the JT grip installed and I may want to switch out my Sparrow grip for a bit more space for my hand to move around.

Would I like to be the test case? No.
Do I think Turners' lawyers vetted this to the nth degree and categorized it as following he absolute letter of the law and is thusly LEGAL? Just like the Sparrow grip, the Monsterman and many others? Yes.

Turners is not the only outlet that sells this configuration.

California Code of Regulations Title 11 Division 5 Chapter 39 Article 2 Section 5471
          (z) "Pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon" means a grip that allows for a pistol style grasp in which the web of the trigger hand (between the thumb and index finger) can be placed beneath or below the top of the exposed portion of the trigger while firing. This definition includes pistol grips on bullpup firearm designs.

California Code of Regulations Title 11 Division 5 Chapter 39 Article 1 Section 5460
The definitions of terms in section 5471 of this chapter shall apply to the identification of assault weapons pursuant to Penal Code section 30515.

          Penal Code 30515
          (a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, ?assault weapon? also means any of the following:
          (1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:
          (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.

I think the JT Grip is very comfortable and ergonomic. But if I recall correctly the grip is like $70, so that's why I never bought one

Seems like it is. Doj went after the shelf (that put finger lower on trigger) ars on the website but left those with JT grips alone so defacto ok I guess

Yep. It would all depend on what exactly is the web of your hand, and how much of it below the line would equal "below the top of the exposed portion of the trigger". The backstrap of our grip is about 1mm above the line to avoid ambiguity. Having any semi-auto rifle in CA has a level of legal risk.

Hopefully we can see a win in the Miller and/or Rupp cases soon so we won't have to deal with any of this! It seems like "two weeks" have turned into two years. *facepalm*

This is an excerpt from Michel & Associates analysis of our grip.

I have a couple, I kind of regret getting them. They don?t work well for me personally, but I don?t think the sparrow would work well either. I have small Trump like hands and fingers, and I have to really push up to the top of the grip to be able to reach the trigger where I can actually fire it. At least for me the webbing of my hand must be above the top of the exposed part of the trigger. I can?t speak to if an Andre the giant type person were to try. I have them on the Sig MPX and Spear.

Regarding your question of legality, I've never read anything that 100% says yes this is California legal, nor would I ever expect to read anything like that. But as another poster mentioned, I find it hard to believe that as large a company as Turner's is that they haven't vetted this over and over as to not put their company in the direct line of fire of the ATF and DOJ. If they are selling it to the direct public and marketing it in their ads as California legal, I would feel comfortable enough as a consumer to go with that. With that being said, nobody's going to come after you as a law-abiding citizen for having done nothing wrong and having nothing more than a JT grip on your rifle, you're going to have to be a complete and total **** up with something far more egregious on your resume before they would try to use this against you
Not only that but doj went after JT for their rifles with the finger shelf and left the featureless grip equipped rifles alone. So that's a defacto ok to me.

Miller v Bonta (Becerra) has been going on for about 4 years. There hasn't been movement since March. And now there is more recent activity on the docket https://www.courtlistener.com/docket...&order_by=desc

Watching very closely for a Benitez ruling. Who knows... maybe this time something will actually happen in two weeks.
