Has anyone else experienced problems with the fixed mag configuration? I have had on at least two occasions, jams due to a feed/extraction issue where I could not release my magazine and I could not separate the action of the upper receiver because the bolt carrier was not in the full forward, Battery position. I found this to be extremely dangerous to resolve and I was wondering if this is a common issue for others. I normally do not have any feed issues but this has presented itself as I said more than once. It bothers me that these stupid laws, because of "scary" cosmetic features, have driven a workaround that alters the design of the weapons functionality that could be detrimental to the safety and handling of the operator. These stupid legislators wouldn't know an unsafe feature if it bit them in the face.

Mag Lock Configuration

So how did you fix it? Remove buffer tube to realease bolt?Comment

Yes you either be sure you run mags that have easy to remove baseplates, and hope that evacuating the mag is enough to help you clear the jam, or you go featureless and forget all that maglock and 10rd nonsense.Comment

In the couple of times this has happened I was able to pull back on the bolt release to relieve enough pressure on the jam and pull the round out but it was nerve wracking to say the least. I really don't like the situation and it has made me question going with the mag lock set up. I was able to get the mag out which helped.Last edited by Dmerrell; 08-04-2023, 7:41 PM.Comment

I've had double feed issues pop up with my Cross Armory SafeMag and Quickpins setup.
I pushed out the front take down pin which breaks the action just a bit, but it's not enough to release the mag. Then I squeeze the Quick Pins to break the rear action so the upper can move a bit, then the mag drops which drops one of the stuck rounds. Once it drops, I close it back up, close the front pin, then cycle the charging handle a few times until the other round ejects.
It's not ideal, but it works.
Reno May has a good video on it:

I haven?t had a jam at the range, but I know that when my bolt is locked back, there is enough space between the upper and lower for me to drop mags. Haven?t confirmed while jammed up tho.Comment

Fixed mag like ar maglock or compmag?Has anyone else experienced problems with the fixed mag configuration? I have no experience with compmag other than seeing numerous people at ranges having malfunctions just like the one you described.
I have several rifles with ar maglocks and I've yet to experience any issues, but these are just range rifles. All my SHTF rifles are RAW. If I didn't have these, I'd probably stick to featureless.
And I think I've seen people resolve their issues by removing the bottom of their fixed mags to remove rounds before being able to disassemble their rifles.Too many rifles, not enough time...Comment

Just go featureless and be done with it. Those things are a OITA for AR’s. Sooo much easier to just push the button and drop the mag. There’s nothing not 3 screws so the fin comes off very easy.Comment

"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.
CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ QuietComment
