    HK G36 Tommy build question.

I have registered HK SL8 before the CA Assault Weapons ban kicked in 2000.
Always wanted to do conversion to HK G36 like rifle. Unfortunately, after almost 1/4 century, it is still sitting in my safe.

Do you think it's worth the trouble and cost involved. Probably cost closer to $4or 5k including original HK G36 parts kit and conversion.

    any suggestions?
It will be a strictly range toy.

No it?s not worth it. Unless you want to keep it forever, you will never get the money back you put into it. My advice is sell the SL8 and put the funds towards a Tommybuilt TG36 if you want a G36. I have one and it?s close enough.

If your H&K SL8 is a RAW, then you can legally modify it in any manner that does not make it a prohibited weapon (MG, SBR, etc).

So in order to remain a CA legal RAW, if you do a G36 conversion on it:
      1. The barrel length needs to be 16" or greater.
      2. The overall length needs to be 26" or greater.
^Overall length is measured with the rifle in the shortest possible firing configuration (stock folded/collapsed).

      Side note...
Tommy Built Tactical also makes/sells a CA legal featureless G36 clone, called the TG36KFR, for $2938.
