    Cant decide need help

I cant decide wether or not to go with a fixed front sight on my first upper or a a railed gas block with flip up sights. I want to run an aimpoint or eotech if that helps.

with a front sight post and an optic does it take away your field of view?

Un-magnified optics you will see a front site post. I run an ACOG and fix FSP, I don't see it it just blurs out.

So if you want an Eotech or Aimpoint most people go with a flip up.

What Tech said, and when I run a Magnifier with the Aimpoint, I lose the FS.

I'd say it's more the other way around.

Fixed FSB is more appropriate for a hard-use rifle.

If you run a lower-1/3 co-witness, you barely/rarely even notice the front sight.

I run a fixed FSB with an Eotech 1/3 co-witness. Rarely if ever notice the FSB, it "ghosts" out.

            esplain yo self.....

I tried to look at from the point of view of the masses this time. I run Fixed FSP and I don't care if I see it or not.

On the other hand I see that most people are opposite. If they run a non-magnified optic, the trend seems to be to run flip ups. Most people say its because they only want to co-witness some of the time, or flip[ up their sights in the event their batteries run out.

my problem is this is my first build and I have never been able to shoot one in either config. there are so many options I am lost. If I went the cheaper route and bought a basic upper how hard is it to swap it out for a low profile gas block and add a rail system?

Not hard at all, take off muzzle accessory, knock out the standard FSP pins, slide it off.

Knock your gas tube pin out, put the gas tube on your new gas block and pin it in. Side it on the barrel, pin/set screw it in...replace muzzle accessory....done deal.

for the above not really...you can use a crescent wrench for the muzzle accessory (its best to buy an AR multi tool), Hammer and a punch. Might want a rollpin punch for the pins...they are "cupped" and make the job easier.

probly want a barrel vise block though.
