    Went Full Retard...

    Hi Gunners,

SPOILER ALERT: Purist's avert your eye's or go blind. You've been warned!
Couple few years ago I traded Yugo 59/66 furniture straight across for this set up. I had a SARCO barreled receiver laying about so I thought I'd turn the Khyber Pass Boys lose. This is what we ended up with, Shernic bull pucky. First off, of course, chop the barrel to 18.5", neutered FSB, Alby bolt mag & carrier, and I finally found a use for one of those honky vented gas tubes. At that barrel length, in the Shernic, the OAL is a bust, so I added a Ramline brake. Good by 1/4 inch now. Tapco piston, Murray trigger job & 2 piece FP, Shernic sock count, the whole she-bang is 922r worthy. Plus, I stayed with the stock mag which makes it GTG in Kali, even with it's evilness. Needs a light and she's ready for the mall ninja crowd. Weighs at least 5 kilos. PAX

I'm not a purist, especially if I know there's more than a couple million of a that particular firearm made, and in this case I think the SKS is probably over 15,000,000 made of different variants, so it looks okay to me and you have the benefit of having a rifle that's ready for a sci-fi movie role too.

I say it's America you can do with you want, especially with your firearms.

I imagine the stripper clips from the top still work and of course you could load one round at a time through the top but I don't know if every non SKS fan knows that you can just drop 10 or less loose rounds in from the bottom, with the rifle turned upside down, and then just close the box magazine. ...

You took something that was just a barrel of receiver and made it usable, nothing wrong with that.

I couldn't agree more. It looks like a really fun gun but that afg has got to go, or get modified.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Thanks fellas. Its's going to get a vertical grip/bipod when I find one cheap. The whole thing was built out of spare stuff. PAX

            Looks great!!

SKS?s are a dime a dozen. Glad you did what you wanted to do.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

To complete it you need to remove the front sight on the barrel near the muzzle device. Looks good, how does it shoot?

It was just a barreled receiver to start.

I left it that way on purpose in case I tire of it or the next guy wants something more conventional. PAX

This 100% fits the "we have it home" meme.

"Can I get a Tavor X95 or Steyr Aug?"

"No, we already have one at home." Queue OPs gun.

But really, I dig the uniqueness. You can have a purist gun and a Bubba gun and a chassis gun.

I turned my SKS into a molot clone with the side rail. Love it.

I like it.....but......My preference is to have my face, chin, and neck well behind the bolt and chamber if or when there is a catastrophic failure.

Started off as a barrel receiver? That’s fine.

At least you didn’t destroy a perfectly good rifle.

Yes, from the SARCO crap heap, near the end when they were pretty bad. There was much surface corrosion and pitting, and the end of the muzzle was gone too. Chopping off 1 1/2 inches got back to decent lands & grooves. That left enough undercut to use a neutered front site globe, in case it didn't work out I could go in another direction without the expense of buying a P50 front sight. I have a mess of different kinds of furniture, but this Shernic crossed my path for dirt, so I went with it. I'm on the fence about warming up to it. I took off the AFG and will install a vertical grip, which it really needs to handle correctly. PAX
