Why does my buffer spring rattle?

Hey guys. I just built my first AR and took it to the range today. I had a little problem with the safety, but that cleared up after after about 40 rounds and then it ran great. The thing is, after every shot you hear the spring in the buffer tube clanging around. Is this normal? Is there a way to make it stop? It's a brand new RRA a2 buttstock kit.

get used to it or you can put some grease on the spring to make it sproing less.

Has anyone ever tried wrapping the spring in something like the outer layer of para-cord or something similar so there isn't the metal on metal contact of the buffer spring vs. buffer tube?

Is the buffer spring hitting the buffer tube the only thing that makes the "sproing"?

Man I love that noise! Just curious, you running an a2 type stock assemby (buffer tube, buffer spring, etc), or carbine length? Ive noticed my rifle length Ace Stock makes a whole lot more Sproing noise then my carbine, despite the fact it has foam wrapped around it (which should be dampening the noise considerably). I think that might be caused by the longer buffer and larger spring.

My good AR doesn't "sprong"....my other ARs do. I have no idea why...

As someone sais, oil it. That will quiet it down a bit.

Cool. So it's normal. It' the first AR I've built, and the only other one I've ever shot had a collapsible stock, and I don't remember that one making noise.

It's the normal function of the buffer spring. Welcome to the the world of ARs. As they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Oh and btw it's normal to have brass marks on the brass deflector too. I knew you were going to ask eventually so I thought I'd tell you now.

Well, I think a better word would be "common". It's very common for a carbine to have that sound. It isn't an issue that should cause any concern. Yes, you can put grease/oil on it to reduce the noise, but there isn't any need to do so.

Shoot it without ear plugs or muffs and the sound goes away.

Break it in (20,000 shots) and it should go away.
either of these two will work great
