I normally use standard militray size black tragets at 100 yards- I think the black is just over 6 inches in Diameter. My eyes are pretty bad so I wear cntactsor glasses or I wouldn't even see the white, never mind the black. Anyhow I recently tried using a center hold on the black and it made things way worse I couldn't for the life of me get a decent grouping with iron sights as the black was super blurred and seeme totally obscure by teh front sight even when it wasnt). I went back to using a 6 o clock hold and it got a bit better but on saturday I shot with irons at a black with an ornage center (for using a scope), This seemed to make a big difference for the better but the problem is I'll still never be able to enter any competitions as you don't have the orange bit there. I taught myself to shoot full bore rifles over here and I'm wondering if there is some trick I've missed to shooting well with a solid black (either 6 or center hold). I'd love to try service rifle comp but can't see it ever happening. my eyes shouold be at full strength with cirrective lenses but the problem persists.

It sounds like you're staring at the sight picture too long and eye fatigue is setting in. The key is to break the shot as soon as you get a good sight picture, trying to make it perfect, especially with an AR, will make things worse. Just remember to focus on the front sight, it doesn't matter if the target is blurry.
I've learned (then forgot, then re-learned) that certain light conditions will dictate what sight picture I'll use: center of mass or six 'o clock. It'll take some time to figure out what works best for you since everybodys eyes are different. -
Perhaps you need one of these: http://www.bjonessights.com/AR15.html
I use them and they've significantly improved my sight picture and reduced eyestrain. Yes, the target is still a blur (and it will always be), but I can see the front sight post clearly and I don't get tired after a few seconds any more.
Have you tried "line of white" for a sight picture? It doesn't work for me, but some use it (if you can keep a consistent line of white).Comment
