    Redi-Mag

This one is for all the Redi-Mag users out there.

    What is your feedback?
Do you like it and why?
Has it helped with reload times?
    Any cons?
Are you also using an extended bolt release?

    How about weight?
There is the standard Redi-Mag and now Blue Force Gear is offering a skeletonized version, Redi-Mod, to cut down weight. Just wondering if it is worth the extra cost?

To me, not really worth it. You could tape two magazines together for about $0.10 worth of duct tape, or spend $10 for one of the numerous magazine couplers out there, and achieve basically the same result. And those options don't require installation or modify the ergonomics of your weapon.

And furthermore, I have seen guys (with lots of practice) who could do a mag-change from a pouch just as fast, no special gear or coupled magazines required.

Just my thoughts, I am a "keep it simple" guy.

I have a Redi-Mag on my M4gery. I do not have a registered AW so I have a BB and only 10rnd magazines.

      Pros:
Its really fast, and with a BB I'll take anything that can shave seconds off a reload. I think it puts you close to the speed of a mag change w/o a BB and no Redi-Mag.

The Redi-Mag comes with the Extended bolt release. I am using it for now but I'll see after heavy usage. It is made of plastic so I'm not sure how many punches it can take before breaking off.

Redi-Mag is ambi. What I mean by this is I normally shoot right handed but when I go lefty I can work the Redi-Mag with my right hand and it is just as fast.

Because I have a BB I can not see myself taping two magazines together or using a connector. When I feel the bolt lock back, I turn my gun to check empty and then use my right hand to work the tool to release the mag. If my magazines were taped together I would then need to then "catch" my magazine with my right hand to reload with my right hand (since my left hand is holding the rail).

Its a personal preference but I'd rather not juggle things as much.

      Cons:
Weight for me is not a problem. Why? Because I have 10rndrs so my gun is still lighter with 2x10rnd vs someone with a 30rnd mag.

However if I did have 30rnd mags I can see the weight starting to become questionable. If I were to do a setup with 30rnds I'd buy the redi-mod and do it right. But at the same time I don't know if I would actually use the redi-mod if I had access to 30rnd magazines.

Balance: Not much of an issue with 10rnds, I can't comment on 2x30rnd setup.

Makes your gun fat and you need to adjust the position of your mags on your person so the gun hangs normally from a sling.

Not sure of anything else. I just started working with it so I haven't run into huge issues I can think of. The speed of the reload kinda trumps most of it for me.

I don't think there's any substitute for trying it.

There are real operator types who like them so it's not total BS. But that doesn't mean it will work for your needs and your situation. Whether it's for you is something you'll have to figure out first-hand. Worst case, you can sell it in the accessories forum.

So I run redi-mags on 2 of my ar15's along with an extended bolt catch/release by Ken_btc here on Calguns. I love the Redimags...I did pay that premium price for the blueforce ones and I dont regret it at all! I travel out of state a lot and actually take advantage of the redimag. I've been asked my LEOS why I run it if I have a fixed mag..Blah blah blah...Whatever.

My reloads are quick and I wouldn't change it for anything!!!!!

The reason I dont use a mag coupler or tape them together is because there is the extra weight being held by the mag release which can and have been problems for me.

Like using a mag as a rest when shooting can cause jams etc. samething happened to me when I used a coupler..

Also apparently Redimag is making a new one out of polymer or some sort of plastic which is great because I can then buy a few more for a lot less money, then dremel out certain areas to make it even lighter.

When you're flat on your belly trying to maintain concealment behind some small piece of garbage in 120 degree heat with somebody shooting at you from a place you can't see...not having to roll out of cover to get another mag is worth it.

If you're slug up and have 8 to 12 mags already in your gear, running n' gunnin'...don't need it.

I think for HD use, I'd consider one, as it's 60 rounds (er...20 rounds for you Ca types) of grab and go.

If it calls to you get one. I had one on my Colt Sporter 12 years ago and wasn't crazy about it. It threw the rifle off balance for me, but then we are talking two gorgeous Colt 30 rounders, fully loaded

I have ran both the RediMag and RediMod... I like them and they serve me well for my purposes

I like the idea that I can pick up my rifle at 0' dark thirty and have an extra 28 rounds on hand... I also find it convenient when I have the rifle thrown in the trunk

I have found my reloads noticeably faster as well... So when training I make it a habit to bump up a fresh mag from my chest rig or belt to the RediMod when possible

Good question, good feedback. Have you found any deals on the RM?
