    Another AR finds a home

I built the Dissipator a couple months ago and the rifle yesterday. It's really a rewarding hobby sending lead down range with something you assembled. Kind of like catching fish with a fly that you tied.

    Very nice!!!

The stuff I learn on Calguns ... below is a
    "AR Dissipator in a
photo of soldier holding Colt 605, with suppressor, Vietnam 1968. A “dissipator” is an AR-15 with a 16-inch barrel but with a rifle-length front sight post.
There’s some controversy about who invented what (Bushmaster was the first company to bring it to the civilian Market) they can first be seen in Vietnam-era photos.

Just remember, there can be things that need to be worked around in giving a gun a 'forever home'...

Cool photo. Until seeing this, I never connected the reason for Dissipator models.

You're very welcome golfish but it was actually your posting and sharing a photo that made me learn something new. So Thanks right back at you.

I will admit that's a pretty cool Vietnam photograph though. The more you look at it the more you see like the Ace of Spades "death card" taped to the stock, the two magazines taped together, the amount of tape that he's used to make the pistol grip larger, the portable radio backpack with antenna and the second AR rifle behind the soldier laying back, etc.

And I do not want or mean to disrespect the memory of these Brave young men but my movie minded eyeball sees the guy on the left looking a bit like a young, not yet hardened Sergeant Barns / played by Tom Berenger from Platoon.
Or that the other Soldier, to me, looks a just a Tiny bit like the character Toad from American Graffiti (maybe it's just his ears), who according to the sequel movie, More American Graffiti ended up in Vietnam with Bo Hopkins / the head of the Pharaohs as his helicopter door gunner as seen in the last part of this YouTube clip...

I really got into it when you could machine an 80% lower using a router and jig. It was just so much easier then. I've replaced all of them with registered lowers and I buried all of the 80% lowers in the Sahara desert...
