    The Enforcer - 7.62 Version

I want to build one of these. Well, a hybrid of the Enforcer and the L42A1.

    Enforcer and the The L42A1

    Something very similar to this:

(so why don't I buy this? No sales to the USA - Vietnam parts or something like that)

What would I need to do this besides a good gunsmith and money? An Ishapore Model 2A or 2A1 to start with... (I'm well aware of the 7.62NATO v .308 issue)

Depending on the barrel it might need replacing, so I'd go with a Shilen barrel. Not sure where to get the proper type stock as see in the included picture. Hopefully I don't have to go the completely custom route, because that would be a lot of money. They make replica No.4 MKI (T) scope mounts, so that's not a big deal. Same with 10 round mags.

I figure I can reuse a lot of the original Ishapore parts (correct me if I'm wrong!) and the biggest obstacle would be the stock. As well as finding a gunsmith who could do this.

Any inside info? A least a proper gunsmith I can "forward" this question to? What MOA should I expect? I was hoping for 1-2 MOA but will take what I can get.

    Thanks!
    Jason

Get a No.4 rifle with decent wood and not too much useage.
Rebarrel with heavy 7.62, use the No.4 front sight on the new barrel (bit of machining needed there.
You can trim the wood down to just in fornt of the barrel band and relieve the wood so that it's a free floating barrel after a certain point.
You'll need a Sterling 7.62mm magazine and probably will have to relieve a bit of the magwell to get the thing to feed properly.
      You'll need a 7.62mm extractor

The canadian DCRA converted No.4's to 7.62mm for years for target shooting and I do not believe that there was one recorded problem with using 7.62 or .308 in these converted rifles. Most of them were single shot but I have one whihc has a 7.62 mag and feeds perfectly.

Any suggestions for a particularly knowledgeable one that would be able to help me out with a smith's name, aftermarket barrels and stocks, and perhaps a "how-to" guide with a needed parts list?

The issue with the wood is the use of a scope. I've seen the replica sniper cheek mounts for sale, but I want a 1 piece stock, and thus the need for the monte carlo stock as seen in the original picture.

The standard stock is too low to use with a scope.

You are comparing a SMLE to a N0.4! It's like comparing an a crab-apple to an apple, they just aren't the same.
Many years ago, Marstar used to sell the parts to convert a No.4 to an L42a1. You might be able to find the parts if you hunt around long enough.
Maybe try Gunboards.com, Ian Skennerton's site or some of the other C&R site out there for Enfield help.

Hmm, I thought they were. So then, what receiver/gun do I want for this build?

Thanks for the tips on other sites to check. Posted this exact thread over on Gunboards a few hours ago.

I always wanted one. A while back boyds made a monte carlo rear buttstock, and you could just cut down the front military stock. Make shure you get a german #4 retical scope

OK... so that means a conversion to 308 since the No4's are .303's.

Where to find the conversion parts?

It took me about 10 years to find the right group of parts to convert 3 #4s to 7.62mm; two L8 types and one quasi-target with a standard weight AJ Parker barrel, AJ Parker target sights, L39 handguard and #8 buttstock. During that 10 year period I obtained and sold two L39 barrels to fund the L8s. I got the parts from the UK, Canada, and Australia. Probably the best source (besides Ebay) in this country is Brian Dick in SC. He specializes in Enfield stuff and makes frequent trips to the UK. I have purchased from him in the past and he is a gentleman and a fair dealer. You can google him for his website. Stay away from the 2A actions and go with a #4mk2 action - these are post war and the best of the bunch. Keep in mind that even the #4 action is marginal for the round. It is adequate for the 7.62 round but it doesn't have a great overbuilt margin of strength in it. This is not the action for hot-rodded reloads. If you are after nostalgia then your Enforcer clone will give you lots of fun. If you want strength and accuracy out of the box get a Savage or Remington.

Gonna put this build on hold for a bit... busy with AK's at the moment.

                      Thanks all, for the help.

However, if you see a clone for sale somewhere, hit me up ASAP!
