Finally shot the 700 R5 at 600 yards

I've had my Eliseo R5 Remington 700 in 6mmBR built since February, but haven't had the chance to shoot it beyond 200 yards until yesterday.

Was able to bring it to Camp Pendleton yesterday for the Open Practice event with the Santa Margarita Gun Club and finally got zeros for 600 yards (and 300 yards).

My load in the 27" Hart barrel is:

    Sierra Match King 107gr
    29.5gr Varget
    CCI BR4
    Lapua brass

I clocked them back in February and they were only moving at around 2750fps in 60F weather.

I already had a 200 yard zero and according to JBM, I need 12.3 MOA from 200 to 600.

So.... when I got to the line, I decided to move my front sight 2 notches (according to Rightsight, approximately 5.5MOA per notch) and my rear sight 4 clicks (1/4 MOA sight). Amazingly enough, it was dead on.

After that first shot, I shot 21 more rounds to simulate a 20 round course of fire, 2 sighters + 20 rounds for record:

Shot 2 ("2nd sighter") was the 8 at 12 o'clock (called it high), shot 9 was the 9 at 9 o'clock (called it left), and shot 22 (last shot) was the 8 at 6 o'clock (called it low, dropped the muzzle). The resulting 'practice' string is a nice 197 with 8 X's.

I am very happy with this rifle. Shoots great. Now all I need to do is fine tune the rifle to fit my body and learn how to shoot rapids effectively with it.

Congratulations. I am glad you are shooting a match rifle. I will stick to the service rifle, M-1A, so I don't have to shoot against you . My best score at 600 was 198-10X with M-1A. I was seriously thinking about buying a Tubb rifle, but it costs too much.

I'm still shooting Service Rifle competitively. I don't plan on shooting match rifle on a serious basis until I perfect everything outside of matches.

I wanted a Tubb 2000, too, but it was way out of my price range. But when I discovered the Eliseo kit and priced it out, it was definitely the go to gun for me as far as match rifle for Across the Course is concerned.

Just looks like any other metallic aperture sights. Basically the target black inside the front aperture circle, inside the rear aperture circle.

What is the cost breakdown if you don't mind me asking? I just bought a Compass Lake Engineering service rifle AR-15 upper with a krieger barrel. But, with my aging eyes, I think I should seriously look into a match rifle and use a 1.5X diopter rear sight to see the sights and targets a little better.

I've been meaning to do a write-up on the rifle, but never got around to it. My compiled notes indicate roughly at $2760 cost excluding the action. But that $2760 includes the Eliseo kit, barrel and labor (labor included barrel install, chambering, and Sako extractor modification, with truing of the action), front sight, rear sight, Gehmann rear iris, and CG Jackson trigger. My action was acquired via a brand new Remington 700 ADL Youth Model in .243 I bought off a dealer that was shutting down in Indiana for a cost of $310 shipped. Add $65 for the out-of-state dealer transfer costs + DROS, and I was able to get the rifle for under $400. I even sold the pulled parts (barrel, trigger, stock, etc) for $100, so my cost for the action was $300.

In best estimates, it's safe to say I spent less than $3200 total for everything.

If you go shooting at a range, I may have to join you for a training session and take a look at your rifle.

Wow those magazines are cool. I see that one has a roll pin while one has a square follower, whats the difference?

The pin is just a part of the follower. The 'roll pin' is inserted into a follower made of the same steel as the magazine. The plastic square version is actually a part of the follower, which is also plastic.

Nice shooting. What is the diameter of those X and 10 rings on that target? Thanks.

X ring for 600 yard target is 6 inches. As such, that is only 6 inches that matters.
