that is a really nice front rest. you're definitely hitting the benchrest scene with your wallet wide open and in good taste. post some pics up when you get your kit complete.

        Stan,

First, I always enjoy when you post. Secondly, nice gear and it looks like you're off to a good start on your new project.

Last..I have a question. Why NF? Can you tell me? I have yet to choose a scope for my .308 build. I am torn. I see a lot of folks using NF. I am split between NF and USO. I am leaning toward USO but it seems like say $1000 will get you more with NF. Thoughts?

Why a fluted barrel? Trying to make the 10.5# weight?

          Why McGowen?

Cool. Thanks for the reply Stan. Good input. I have never really been a "MOA" type shooter, body mass shooter is a better description of my shooting goals...as long as its a hit, I'm happy.

I'm shifting gears and giving long range and precision a try. I think I will give NF a try. I have had Leupold before (not one of their high end scopes) and I agree they are nice. Other people have mentioned that while Leupold makes nice scopes...they aren't as nice as others while looking out to 1000yards.

I have had the pleasure of handling some of M24armorers M40's equipped with USO...It really "clicked" in my head why these thing are so much $$$! They were very bright and very clear.

I need to check out the NF and USO side by side and also compare similar models....I'm looking for something preferably fixed X10 but I don't mind a 1.8-10X.

              Thanks again for the info!

Not worried about weight...it is a straight cylinder barrel at 1" diameter barrel...I just think the polished flutes will look cool and something you do not see on a bench gun very often.
Also....McGowen had the fastest turn around time....Krieger,Hart, Pac Nor,etc., all quoted me from 3-8 months! I am not that patient.

                      Take care,Stan
Good reasons. The fluting would certainly make it a custom order. Sharpshooter Supply and Northland Shooters Supply usually have Pre-fit barrels for Savages made by Shilen in stock but not fluted.

I shot one season in the mid 80's in the short range, 100, 200 and 300 yard matches with a borrowed 22PPC (sleeved Remington with a Hart barrel). I was a poor sailor at the time and couldn't afford my own gun.

If you're shooting the 600 and 1000 yard matches you have to shoot in the light gun class but even at that you're going to be competing against 17 Lb rifles.

Take a look at F class shooting while you're at it, that gun you're building would be right at home there.

That is some nice stuff you got there. That rest is out of this world, the price is also just wow! Keep us updated with your progress, I've been wanting to build a precision rifle using the LRPV single shot action from Savage.
