Removing gas tube from a gas block.

I'm installing an adjustable gas block and wanted to reuse the old gas tube. I have removed the roll pin but the tube seems to have become one with the gas block. It has a few thousand rounds through it. Has anyone removed an old tube before and reused it?

^^^^agree. Liquid wrench and even WD40. But in the end , a new gas tube is very cheap.

Agreed for 20 bucks i would buy a new one. it will fit all nice and won't be all buggered and then you have a spare.

I had the same easy repairing a buddy's upper, the gas tube was caked with carbon and stuck in the gas block. I hit it with a MAP torch and it popped off easy.

i replaced the stubborn ones (ended up bending them) and re-used the ones that are easy to remove.

              Try some Kroil oil.

upload a picture of it if you are stuck so we can assess the situation properly for you.

Yeah as others said should be able to soak with some cleaner or carbon cutter and then pull out.
Gas tubes are also pretty cheap so if it’s just gonna get buggered up. Might as well keep the gas tube and block together as a spare.

drill out the other side since the gas block is completely borked.

add penetrating oil and something that will break down carbon and let it soak.

heat gas block with a torch, add more penetrating oil and yank it off.

All of this will take about 4 hours or so of your time, where at federal minimum wage equals 1.5 gas tube. im sure you value your time higher than minimum wage, so think what is the real cost to you to recycle the old one?

PB Blaster Soak is a good idea.

If it isn't strong enough. You can cut the top off a water bottle and fill it with gasoline and let it sit inside of that for a few hours.

Jig up a vise and figure out a way to securely hold the gas tube without bending or crumbling it. Heat up the block with a heat gun or torch. Then use a soft grip to grab the gas tube then use a hammer + chisel to tap the gas block downward while the tube is being held firmly. Use pb blaster for lubricant if needed. I would spray it inside of the existing roll pin hole and in front where gas block + tube meets.
(make sure roll pin is removed obviously)

The problem is getting a good grip of the tube without bending it.

If I were in your shoes, I would buy a new gas tube. Not worth the headaches / time down the road for such a cheap part to replace.

That's good stuff. Leave it soak overnight.

I switch out gas tubes almost every day.
Grab the gas tube in your bench vise with the gas block right up against the edge of the vise jaw.
Twist on the gas block to break it free and then tap the gas block off the gas tube with a nylon faced hammer.
