Stripped AR upper into functional upper without a parts kit?

This is the scenario. I bought an upper parts kit but I had it sent to the wrong home address in NV. I'm stuck at work until Friday in California. I want to shoot my new upper on Saturday when some friends are going to meet us at the range.

The stripped upper, barrel and railed handguard are with me in CA. I have the tools to install the barrel and handguard tonight. The upper will be a dedicated .22lr upper using CMMG's BCG, dedicated barrel and barrel extension, so no ridges for a forward assist anyway.

Anyone see why I can't build the upper without a dustcover or forward assist? Can these be added later?

I'll be too busy loading up the instant canopy, target stands, T-posts and steel targets Friday night after getting home, so I want to minimize the gun tinkering.

    No dustcover should be fine.

Not sure about the FA, but I don't see why it can't be added later.

Just get either strike industries or Magpul dustcover so you don't have to take off the handguard later.

I don't recall seeing the indents required to make the FA work on the CMMG conversion BCG anyways; I'd expect you'll be fine. Just don't ride the BCG home. Any AR should function just fine for the range without the FA. I'd want one for SD, but it's purpose is it push the bolt to lock the lugs under severe conditions. You should be able to avoid this at the range.

You don't need either. It will be perfectly safe.

Thanks, guys. While looking for a charging handle, I found a complete Aero precision upper I must’ve squirreled away during Black Friday.

I found a cheapie 10” rail also, but it’s too long for the 8” barrel.

I have to find a long extension, or be forced to run a can this weekend. I may have a 1/2x28 extension somewhere. But it is going to be another hassle I don’t need

Put a longer MB or Flaming Pig style muzzle device on it.

Without the CMMG deflector dust cover, watch out for brass and gas to your face if you are shooting left handed.

Thanks. Fortunately I found a complete upper stashed away, but both uppers have brass deflectors built in.

Nothing a chop saw wouldn't fix.
I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.
