How often do you clean your MSR barrel?

Are you cleaning barrels after every range trip or a certain round count?

I clean it once it starts having failures.

Until then it gets a spritz of oil and more shooting

My military training compeled me to clean each range trip but now it is every 3rd or 4th outing. The ammo is concorrosive and the bores are chrome lined so for only range shooting there's no need to clean each time.

Not often. I usually just pull a bore snake through it after each trip and leave it at that.

I'll give them a good clean after about 1k rounds.

Generally when the normal sized groups start to get wonky. That's the tell for me.

If the barrel looks like a sewer pipe inside and it still shoots well I leave it alone. Good ju ju is not to be F'd with.

I used to do after every range trip, which isn’t a lot of rounds either. Now they just sit until they look really dirty or I find a nice time to do it.

I've been doing it every range trip unless I go back to back days. Wanted to see what everyone else does. I think I'll start doing it once a month or so since it doesn't seem it will harm anything. Thanks

Cleaning it wears it out more than shooting it though sometimes. I know the Marines use cleaning your firearms to instill discipline and that kind of thing but cleaning before a class or carry is probably more optimal. Otherwise every 3 to 4 range trips depending on round count or time accrued since last shooting.

I do a simple cleaning every range day but I am very much a non-high volume shooter so I will just go shoot 100rds, clean ‘er up, lube ‘er, and put ‘er away. Depending on what you want to do, too accuracy maybe clean often, use for SD or HD and you could probably be fine with a rare cleaning because it will function fine.

Yep, and then I just grab another one if it stops working.

Dang, you guys that clean only after malfunctions, must take thousands of rounds. Cleaning once or twice a year? The chamber and carrier must be a baked on mess.

You'd think so until you try it. *Lubrication at the proper intervals, places and amount keeps things clicking along. I have found this true with centerfire and rimfire semi autos.
This doesn't mean you stop inspecting things under the hood.

*makes cleanup easier when the time comes.

I pull a bore snake through the barrel after each outing and a quick wipe down.

Don't have that many rounds through it to require a deep clean. I do keep it lubed.
