PTR 91

Perhaps I'm searching wrong but 3 tries & I found nothing, what are opinions on the PTR 91? The HK CETME style semi auto is one I don't have and since River City has them I'm considering buying one.

I'm going to assume they are OK accurate and reliable, I'd like to attach a small optic and assume with the rail that will be easy. These use HK mags which I think are pleniful and cheap and from which 10 rounders can be easily made? Is there I BB available - as in same one that fits HK fits this?

I have one. Only ~100 rds through it but in my experience it has been a very finicky eater. No problems at all with Igman, but DAG and that British Aerospace stuff have major FTE issues. Maybe it needs breaking in; just haven't had enough time to really assess the issue, and its not fun to shoot as a bolt-action
I like it otherwise, and at least one rifle of this pattern is a must-have in my collection, so i WILL get the bugs worked out of it.

As far as your other questions, yes, there are decent rails for the top of the receiver, mags are very cheap and plentiful, and the RaddLock for the HK works great on the PTR-91.

I like mine so far. I built out a Cetme with a new barrel and so far it's been great. Had some issues with some ammo, but I think it was the ammo. I've been running Miwall .308 reloads through it and it's liking that stuff fine. As for optics, I don't know much other than they have claw mounts which apparently mark up the upper, or you could weld on a rail mount. I used a PTR receiver from JLD so I had a sight base for HK drum mount and it's as accurate as anything I shoot with irons. Of course that isn't really saying much as I'm not that experienced shooting with Iron sights. There are a lot of parts available at HKpartsspecialist.com and RobertRTG.com so you can modify it quite a bit. Not AR like selection, but pretty decent options. I think it comes down to personal preference as I love the rifle and would take it over my FAL, but everyone else I've shot it with like the FAL better. I also don't reload and I hear it's pretty hard on brass, so I haven't dealt with that, but it's one more consideration for you.

My PTR-91 is really fun to shoot and very accurate out of the box.

I've used very good ammo in it, and when I was out, it ran Wolf just fine.

Of course, I cleaned out a load of black soot at the end, but nothing bad happened to the gun.

I really like my PTR. It's accurate and fun to shoot. I had some problems at first, but it turned out to be a bad magazine.

Have the factory trigger adjusted and the rifle is accurate and gtg. The recoil will give your shoulder a beating compared to an AR though.

It looks like "about $1,300.00" is ballpark for the standard PTR. Can't recall what River City was charging and although I hit a few other stores last week I wasn't really looking at who else might have them - SJG, Irvington or BAGV?

Yeah. The HK 911 is too rich for my blood, but if I could swing it, I would, 'cause she's a beauty.

$1300 sounds pretty good to me. A while back I was looking at building a PTR/HK clone and it was about $250 for the PTR receiver without fees, etc and good parts kits were running around $700. Then you have all the assembly, any 922 issues, non-detachable magazine issues, and 10 round mag issues. Finding one that is built and CA compliant for $1300 would be worth it to me.
