Are hexmags the most easily modified 10/30 mag?

I'm interested in designing and selling customized magazines. But being a California resident i'm obviously limited to having 10rnd magazines on hand. I've been doing some research and it looks like hexmags are fairly easily converted to standard capacity by drilling out a rivet and adding a new spring. Is this the best option to legally have on hand in california while being able to ship to free states where customers can convert them to standard capacity if they wish? Is there an equal or easier magazine out there that I could legally have in california but still be able for customers to modify if they wish?

All of my Magpul mags just had a rivet & the original long spring. During Freedom Week I just drilled out the rivet and that was it; no extra parts needed.

Something to consider is that although it doesn't affect function, not all free state people like having an extra hole in their mags. Unless your customization somehow integrates the hole into it's design.

Thats good to know, magpul is a better option if it doesn't need a new spring. Yes of course most people in free states would rather have straight up standard cap mags without needing to do anything. But as far as I know I can't buy and sell standard cap mags in CA?

If I had an FFL or manufacturing license would that change anything within this state? I assumed there was no way around these state laws?

FFLs can deal with hi cap mags

Also magazines in the free world a lot of times sale for like $10 or even less for 30 round pmag or the steel GI mags so I am not sure how much room for profit there would be.

          Rivet? What rivet?

The Hexmag 10/30s that I had before Freedom Week were just 30s with a short spring and extension that attached to both the baseplate and the short 10 rd. spring making up the difference. Freedom Week for those mags was as easy as removing said extension Of course spring replacement made them more reliable but they still held more than 10 even with just the original shorter springs.

As mentioned before there is no rivet. Just a really large insert.

You can buy Brownells replacement springs to convert them and just remove the insert.

Was it the original style with the rivet? Or the new style that has the rivet. According to hexmag website it says the baseplate is secured for no modification or takedown. I'll probably order some magpul mags and see what the situation is. And if these customized mags seem popular an FFL will be in the cards and hopefully CA would approve a permit for me to sell standard cap online to customers outside CA.

Appreciate all the replies on this!

Are you modding mags with laser etched designs or something? What makes your mags special? Why would someone in a free state bother to order a blocked mag they would need to convert to normal capacity? How do you think you will order P-mags if you are not already a Large Capacity Magazine Permit holder? That's not how any of this works.

Something like that. I already stated i'd be getting 10/30 mags until I get the large cap permit.

I bought hexmags series 1 way back and there was no rivet. They wouldn't drop free from some receivers so after contacting hexmags, they sent me series 2 bodies, which fixed the problem. There was no rivet as it was just the body. I replaced the springs with Brownells 30 round ones during freedom week. I haven't bought hexmags since, only pmags.

Hexmags are absolutely junk. Like Promags. Jam constantly.
