New CA AR available

I was at the gun show yesterday in vallejo and I saw a new CA AR. It is made by Vulcan and a complete setup was $1042(i think?) it loads like a FAB10, but what is different is that it actually has a mag in the mag well. It has a 20 rd mag body with a max capacity of ten rounds, not a welded up mag well. According to the dealer it was just approved this past thursday and there are 15 different configs. he even had the DOJ exemption letter. Very nice, although their web site doesn't yet list the fixed magazine version of this rifle, they have a lot of cool stuff. I noticed they have an M10 variant without a threaded barrel. This is a pisotol. I wonder if we could get that certified for sale in CA..

I too talked to the dealer from Newtown Enterprises in Placerville and was quite impressed by the AR-15 (Knight RAIS like free float tube, Versa-pod bipod, stainless barrel) with the pinned mag. AND THEN I read the sale sign again and it said "Vulcan Arms." This company is Hesse Arms reincarnated. My heart sank. I became skeptical because of the problems I have heard from other Hesse owners about this company.

The dealer (Rob Anderson) then told me that the company is under new management. Apparently, the son of the founder of Hesse is running the show and quality control and what not is a lot better than before.

I asked him if Vulcan was selling the receivers by themselves and he said not at this time. I guess since the company just got it approved, it'll take some time before they sell the receivers by themselves.

We shall definitely see.

Websites like Vulcan's always turn me off...full of cheesy graphics and exaggerated special forces claims. As if the special forces are going to report for muster with low quality AR clones.

I'm not a fan of Vulcan due to the past reports of QC problems - I might consider one like that if Bushmaster, RRA or DPMS stepped up to the plate though.

I'd throw rocks at a target before I'd own anything made by hesse.

Very very few if any AR co's fully make their own lower receivers. They may do some final work and machining and coating.

Vulcan/Hesse prob has not touched their lower too much and let their vendors do all the hard work.

I wouldn't buy anything from ASA either, though I have two of their AR lowers and they're great.
Of course, about the only thing ASA did was stamp their logo & S/N on it and maybe do final coating.
