This is easy to install also. Allows for a more natural ergonomic hold and control than a fin grip. I have had a fin grip for years also but I think this is a better alternative.

I think it may be arguable that the production receiver is the actual/ original size of the trigger guard and just by modification or adding to it does not justify legality or change the size of the original trigger guard.

But your idea has merit.

Hello, I have an idea for a featureless grip(non- pistol grip) and an insert that I've submitted a patent for.

Did you conduct a DD patent search? I'm asking because the design you show in the picture has been out in the public domain for some time, it's even been discussed on forums in some great detail. A quick search will show that info.

You might want to check for prior art. The patent search, search for prior art and public domain descriptions, mockups and such would seem to be a necessary step prior to applying for a patent. I'm bringing this up because things can get very expensive for the patent infringer even if what they do is without malicious intent.

Maybe contact a patent attorney after doing your best with searches.

Hello, SharedShots. I did do a search and I did not see anything that resembled the grip that I have. The action line is lowered with the addition of the insert to establish a new position of the exposed top of the trigger.

My grip is unique in that it is impossible for the web of the hand to be placed below the top of the exposed trigger. And it has the added benefit of creating space where it is critically needed where to my knowledge other grips do not. As shown in the image provided.

Juggernaut Tactical's grip does not pass this test and in my opinion, this is the reason there was a ruling against them. Their idea for the integral additional material on the lower is a valid idea. My idea is for retrofitting existing lowers by permanently attaching said insert.

I addition to this as brought up by Rifle ronin. I would argue/suggest that adding the insert and permanently attaching it to the original lower is much the same as permanently attaching a magazine to make it non-removable, thus it is considered a "fixed magazine". Thereby the addition of the insert moves the top of the exposed trigger to a lower position regardless of the original lower receivers configuration . And with the new grip would provide more room for, larger hands, gloved hands, and some stocks with limited clearance at the lower receiver/buffer tube interface.

I would greatly appreciate any links to examples of prior art or images that predate the work I've done. As members are correct that infringing on other's ideas even unintentionally can be expensive. Intellectual property is protected and I wouldn't want to infringe on others as I would expect that they would not infringe on my ideas.

In a sense, yes but then if you look closely the grip is different from the Sparrow, Resurgent Arms, Juggernaut Tactical, Monster Man and all of the others. It is my own design which is patent pending with a lowered action line.

For discussions sake lets look at the "action line" as depicted in this URL below with a red line. It is aligned colinear with surface where the top of the exposed trigger and the lower receiver intersect. Call this the action line.

I propose to lower the action line with an insert that is permanently fixed to the lower receiver. Once installed the "new action line" is lower than the original "action line". My non pistol grip is designed to prevent the web of the hand between the index finger and the thumb to be placed below the "new action line". It is in compliance with the regulations unlike the Juggernaut Tactical(JT) version. JT had an excellent idea but as the Armed Scholar on YouTube pointed out the JT grip may not be compliant(search for his video). I think the DOJ agreed with this.

I started this exercise Oct 2021 with a purchase of the Resurgent Arms grip. I installed it on my rifle and discovered I couldn't get my hand around the grip with my setup. I thought I'd lower the action line and create the room I needed. I was working on the solution and the patent when the JT rifle was shown on the Armed Scholars YouTube channel Dec 02, 2021. I thought now what. Well an insert may work, plus it can be retrofitted to the millions of existing rifles out there. Juggernaut Tactical if you are out there and see this let me know if my idea violates or infringes on your patent.

With so many choices in featureless grips, I'd probably not buy something that seems like a copy of another despite being considered "new."

It is an improvement and creates more space for your hand. I have spoke with others, owners of gun shops and ex-military personnel that won't use the other grips on the market because of the lack of space.

I explained the trouble I had with another grip and the reason for this design change. It isn't a copy, it solves a problem and allows you to use other stocks you may prefer over a collapsible stock such as the Magpul PRS stocks and others.
