Need help Please

Hello everyone,

I've purchase a rifle in an aout of state auction through proxibid. Went to my FFL today, as it turns out to be it's not CA legal. To make a long story short is there any way to get it into the state legally maybe mods or something?
Any suggestions welcome.

Your problem is that this is a Bushmaster, probably the exact model # of the receiver is on the banned AR list.

I'll let others provide their feedback, but my take is that you'll have to find a way to cancel the transaction - maybe pay the seller a cancellation fee.

I do have to ask - why'd you bid before you figured out whether the item is CA legal or not???

There is one other possibility, and this will need the feedback of those smarter than I. What is banned is the Bushmaster receiver as built up into a functioning rifle. It doesn't appear that the bare, stripped receiver itself is banned. If you are able to strip it down, DROS the receiver only, that may help. This may not work - so let's hear some thoughts from others on this.

DPMS lower is illegal.

Have them strip all the parts off the lower receiver and give them to you. Buy an off-list lower (OLL) and build it back to a legal configuration. That's the only way I see to get that rifle here legally...

Buy another stripped lower and transfer the upper/stock/LPK.

Have the seller ship everything but the no-no DPMS lower and see if he can get a few bucks taken off.

the only thing to do short of cancelling the transaction is to have the lower removed and stripped of the parts and get an OLL.they might even be able to trade your lower for a lower of equal value install it for you.talk to them and ask

Hopefully the seller will work with you. You made a big mistake and can only hope he will. Best to ask real nice and politely how he can help you to resolve this.

It's only the receiver markings that make it illegal.

Assuming you have been reading through this forum for research prior to purchasing, I like others want to know how could this happen?

ok so once again everybody thanks for your input. Next question which lower will work assuming the seller is willing to strip it for me. I don't know much about ar type rifles this was going to be my first. I know all about russian guns
but this is a dark forest to me.

Any OLL (Off List Lower) will do. Just make sure he includes the LPK and stock assembly.

DPMS is no go in CA. How come the rifle looks coated in oil?
