I've been using Winchester Dynapoints in mine without any problems. Reliable and hasn't jammed. I've put about 800rnds through without cleaning so far, I just make sure to oil it.

Can you load 22lr ammo in it? Can it be modded to shoot 22 mag ammo?

That's what the rifle is built for, so yes.

What's the most potent and reliable 22lr ammo for this rifle?

I dont have a g22 but as far as .22lr ammo goes, you just have to try it out for yourself, its cheap enough so that you can buy a lot of different brands at once and see how well it works for you.

my rem 597 works really well with federal copper jacket hp bulk ammo but jams every 3rd round with lead thunderbolts (so did my cousin's 10/22 )

the strongest .22lr are stingers i think (i may be wrong) they are a lot louder than regular .22 and cost more

I agree. I don't think that you'll find anything hotter than the CCI Stingers for the .22 LR.
Buy one box and see how you like them. In my 10/22 their POI is 3" higher than any other hi-vel ammo at 50 yards. Also, since the Stinger's case is a bit longer than the regular .22 LR case, make sure that they'll fit into your chamber. Probably won't be a problem as most off-the-shelf rifles are built to handle a variety of ammo, but some target .22 rifles with tight match chambers won't feed them. YMMV.

I read on other forums that the site moves and the screw that holds it can strip easy.

What's a good inexpensive red dot for it?

I read that some ammo does not cycle well in it. What's the best ammo to use in the G22?
