Assembling my first AR - Rules question

I have a 16" barrel. So far, so good. It's got a threaded end to it.

At 16", can I leave the threaded end as is? I won't, not long term, but is that an issue? I know the "muzzle brakes, not flash hider" rule, but is the rule "no threaded barrel", in case I put an evil, evil silencer on there that I magically find somewhere?

    Thanks.

Threaded barrels only applies to handguns (AW).

There is no "no threaded barrel" rule for rifles. Only a "no flash hider" rule for featureless rifles. An exposed threaded barrel? Not a "flash hider". A tactical spork muzzle device? Not a "flash hider". An assault chainsaw muzzle device? Not a "flash hider".

I'd put a thread protector on in just to keep things nice
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

How do you put a muzzle brake on without a threaded barrel ? Simple thread protectors are on Ebay for $5

Threads are the only RIGHT way.
There are clamp-on muzzle devices for un-threaded barrels.
              They suck.
They often slide off the barrel and get launched downrange before the gun owner has the barrel properly threaded.

Are you asking for yourself? Do you have a 16" barrel with no threads? The context here is an AR....

there are ARs that don't have threaded barrels, and clamp ons are available. but why?

Like others have said, put a thread protector on there. Cheap insurance.
