    Different Triggers

I am newbie to building AR's and was wondering what the difference is between a single and 2-stage trigger. What are good companies and stuff that I should look for?
    Thanks in advance

A single stage trigger will typically have a heavier pull and the break will be more at the begginning of the pull. A two stage trigger will usually have a lighter trigger pull and the break will be much later in the trigger pull. I just used a single stage RRA trigger on my first build but after shooting a buddies with a 2 stage RRA, I will be useing that on my next build...

A single stage trigger has one continuous pull while a 2-stage trigger is going to have a very noticeable change in weight (the 2nd stage) during the course of the trigger pull itself. Basically, with a 2-stage, you're going to pull through the lighter first stage until the trigger stops/ gets harder to pull. This is the start of your second stage, and is usually much shorter than the first. I personally much prefer two stage triggers, but others will differ in that opinion. IMO, any battle rifle that is really worth a damn has a two stage trigger on it (SMLE, K31, Mauser, M1 Garand, M14/M1A, etc.).

I would suggest the RRA 2-stage if you can get a hold of one. They are reasonably priced and nothing short of a requirement!

Single stage trigger has very little take up(movement) between applying pressure to the trigger and sear release. Two stage trigger has more take up between first sear and second sear, second sear is the one that drops the hammer, so to speak. I would go with a standard Rock River two stage. Its a great set up.

              its exactly as it sounds

              single stage has one break

two-stage has a bit of travel until a lighter, cripser break

the RRA 2-stage is a decent value ($120) for starters, very good trigger, i rund it on all my ARs that don't have Timneys

LMT, CMMG, Bushmaster 2-stagers are around $140-180

Giesielle is considered the best commonly available two-stage ($250-300)

Timney makes very goood single stage triggers ($190-220)

This is a pretty comprehensive AR Trigger comparison writeup that I've bookmarked a while back.

On my last build, I stuck with my DPMS LPK trigger but sent it off to Bill Springfield for a 4# trigger job. Very good work and extremely fast turn around time, $35. I love the results.

One of my lowers have a RRA 2 stage. Since I've shot the 2 stage for several years, the single stage takes some time to get used to. I have to relearn keeping my finger off the tigger until I'm ready to fire the round.

With a 2 stage, I can pull up the slack on the 1st stage and fine tune my sight alignment and 2nd pull for the shot.

AR15 Sales has an unnamed 2 stage, most likely RRA, for $99. Pretty sweet deal. But the $35 Bill Springfield 4# single stage is a steal of a deal. Some food for thought.

Once you decide, and want to kill some more time and money then look into anti-walk trigger pins, etc.

With a two stage trigger, you can go through the first part of the pull very easily. Near the very end of the pull it will suddenly require more force to pull, so you know when the trigger is just about to break, then just apply a little more pressure, and it will have a very short and crisp break. 2 stage will give you a lot more precision when it comes to accuracy over a standard LPK.

Thanks alot for the advice. Sounds like ill probably go with a 2 stage for my varmint version and a single stage on the M4 style.
