Piston upper reccomendations?

Looking to add a piston upper to my collection. What's good, what's not?

What's your budget?

I've heard good things about the Wolf A1 upper from Taiwan.

I've also heard good things about the Brownells BRN-180 Gen 2.

But both have also had some mixed reviews.

People seem to love Adams Arms P series uppers.

Though different, the Faxon Arak-21 is supposed to be good.

I have a complete rifle from Primary Weapon Systems (PWS) that is just fantastic.

My buddy bought one of their uppers and has had a similar experience.

The whole DI vs piston debate aside, I've actually never heard anything bad about any factory-built uppers. I've heard of some issues with retrofit kits, which take an existing DI upper and replace some parts with the piston equivalent. But a complete factory built upper that's ready to go, the goofballs have been sorted out & out of business for a while.

The only AR-type piston I still have is a T-91/Wolf A1.

I have a gen 1 and 2 gen 2 uppers that I've been using along with my Stoner gassed AR's for over 10 years. Very solid all the way around. Great barrels, very accurate.
Very simple designs that just keep on going.

BEWARE, not all piston uppers are equal. It's still a collection of parts that need to run in concert with precision. Caveat emptor.

I’ve have two of the LMT MRP gas piston uppers. Have been 100% reliable and surprisingly accurate. Also super easy to remove the barrel for cleaning or to switch to another caliber or barrel length. LMT makes military quality rifles. Can’t go wrong.

I’ve owned a PWS and an LWRC upper

Both of them worked fine

Sold them because they didn’t stay any cleaner than my gas tube guns when suppressed

LWRC is there anything else? If you want a decent more budget option Sigg 516 P is essentially an LWRC clone

just get a complete scar 20s and know you have the most accurate production gas gun that is relatively available at the moment.

Good advice here. 2nd vote for POF in 308 is great. There happens to be on on the marketplace. (Not mine)
