I found this online today, thought I would share. Someone put together a nice spreadsheet. First they explain the technical features of an M4, then they give specs on the various M4's, then they compare it.

That's called "The Chart."
It's the most current, and extremely well done, version from rob_s (who also does great reviews on other stuff).
It's really the basis of comparison for understanding what makes one rifle better than another. I've posted it dozens of times and it's also linked in my signature thread (to the m4carbine.net thread about what it all means).
Keep in mind, it's not the end-all-be-all, but rather a great way to start thinking about differences between makers. Some items can be modified by ordering the correct choices from the manuf. Also, some great semi-custom and custom makers aren't on there, as well as upper-only manufs like BCM.

This chart had caused much turmoil in the AR community. Lots of battles over it being right & wrong. Gives lots of good facts though. I do disagree with the CMMG BCG rating. Mine were both staked properly.Liberals could fk up an anvilComment

There is no "best."
It's a basis for comparison. "Best" is the rifle that matches your budget, criteria, and desired characteristics.
The reason Colt comes off looking "best" is because they follow the TDP specs.
What you should do is look at what is lacking from the listings on the chart and what's not listed as a parameter on the chart (eg., the Noveske has a unique barrel) to determine "best."
Notice, also, these are for one version of a carbine. Other versions may do better/worse.
